I am super new to mattress shopping (I didn’t even know there were different types of matresses before this week!) I’ve looked at this forum for a bit and am incredibly impressed by the depth of knowledge and helpfulness of the community! I am hoping someone can help me out.
I am 5’5 and 130 pounds, so generally in the lightweight category. I have had shoulder pain before, but I’m not sure if thats from the mattress I am currently sleeping on or not (or pillow).
Unfortunately I am in a more remote part of BC Canada, so its hard to find many local small shops, most are just big store brands like the Brick and even those options are limited.
I went out looking throughout the week and have some that I like, but am still very unsure about them due to limited information.
Here are the current options I have tried:
I went to a smaller place in town and they sold exclusively Spring Air matresses from Restwell (I was told they were all made in southern BC). They said they use no memory foam in their matressed which I was intrigued by.
The first one I liked was a Spring Air Rapture Never Turn Euro Top 11.75". I don’t have the specs for it yet, but the info sheet says it has tencel fabric, 3-zone 8" 1200 pocketed coils, ECOTEX high density foams, conforma fiber, ECOTEX gel infused foam, foam encased edge for edge support and talalay latex.
The second was a bit out of my price range but it did feel nice. It was the Spring Air Calais 13". Again, I have no specs yet but the info panel said it has Conforma touch firm foam, 5-zone 8" 1200 pocketed coils, 3-zone posturized base, talalay latex, and silk and wool fibers.
I liked that the sales person did not rush me and let me explore freely while giving me general knowledge about the mattresses. I also believe they are all Centipur-US certified. I could not find any information about the brand or reviews or information online so that concerns me a little bit…
I also went to the Brick and tried a Springwall Imagine Encore (1075 pocketed coils, low recovery gel memory foam, convoluted foam) bed that seemed to help relieve my shoulder pain. After looking up reviews I have great concerns about the company’s durability and customer support. It was also a HUGE matress.
There was a Sealy essentials (Medium Kylie 2.0) at the Brick but I am highly wary of that brand too as I have heard very bad things online. The mattress panel said it has pocketed coils, cool gel-x fiber, truEdge support, and antibacterial fabric).
There was also next to no information about these mattresses and a bit of a pushy sales techniques being used (sale only for the next two days), so I’m very wary about that as well.
Again, I live in a smaller town so its hard to find a lot of matress options in person, and even less easy to find anyone knowleable about them. I am a bit nervous about trying online as well. I do have a Costco a bit of a drive away too so there may be more options there.
If anyone has suggestions or comments I would be incredibly grateful for the help! I’ve gone into a bit of an analysis paralysis mode so making any decision feels very hard.
