Still in the process of fine tuning my all latex mattress here, and wanted to ask about adjustable bases. I am 105 lbs, 5’5”, side sleeper but start on my back and trying to train myself for more back sleeping, have a low back herniated disc and pretty bad scoliosis. Everyone I have met with in person when testing a mattress recommended an adjustable base for my conditions. Problem is, I am concerned about the slatted varieties that are pretty much built out of metal bars covered in fabric.
Right now I am sleeping on a Thuma classic bedframe with a foldable bunkie board and Savvy rest coconut coir bed rug on top. I was going to buy plywood to replace the bunkie board for a more solid foundation, but then the adjustable frame option came back up. When I tried sleeping with my 9” latex mattress directly on the Thuma slats (just under 3” apart) it KILLED my back. Very badly. Apparently I can’t handle any micro dips with my spine conditions. So my question is, are there any adjustable bases that would work for me?
I am aware I would have to remove the Thuma slats and center support beam to fit the adjustable base inside.. kind of a bummer but it is what it is. I almost bought a Rize silver adjustable base, but I know Costco sells a Sleep Science Q series for a good price and they offer a great return policy if it doesn’t work out, unlike any other retailer for this kind of product (as far as I’m aware). I am pretty sure both of these would be similar to a slatted system though…
FYI I prefer not to have any of the fancy features like massage, lighting, usb charging on the bed, etc. I don’t even like having any electronics plugged in in my bedroom at night at all, but would make an exception for good sleep! All insight is appreciated
With adjustable bases it looks like theyre made quite similar and ive always thought that layer of material that the bed lays on would be perfect because there would be no dipping. I just saw one that simply plug in and adjustable on amazon for $300
Hello ~ I know I already commented earlier about my experience with using a 6" wedge under my existing mattress because is was affordable compared to buying an adjustable foundation. I just wanted to mention that my wedge (which cost about $150ish) came with a coupon for $300 towards and incline sleep adjustable base if I wanted to get that in the future. Their bases adjust from a flat surface up to a 12" tilt with a silent motor and remote control. Here’s the link if you want to take a look: Incline Sleep foundations. They do have the ones with all the extra features too. Good luck in your search for the perfect night’s sleep!
