I thought I provide a short preliminary review of the flobed shredded latex topper ( I have the blended latex one in twin/twin xl size )
this topper is made out of latex " tubes" that run across the body that can be individually adjusted by removing some of the shredded latex stuffing.
I found this system interesting and could not resist their black Friday sale.
Customer service was great - with regular order updates including shipping notification. I also ordered a shredded latex pillow.
The first thing I noticed what how stuffed both the topper and the pillow are - removing stuffing out of the pillow is messy but resulted in a very comfy standard sleeping pillow that is very cushy and soft and at the same time supportive- and two equally as comfy decorative pillows. You get a LOT of shredded latex in one pillow …
The topper is just equally as stuffed but I am not sure yet how fluffy/squishy I like it so I’ll sleep on it for a while before playing with zoning it.
There is no bad odor - maybe a very slight smell but after only about 8 hours of airing out I climbed into bed and did not find the latex smell bothersome in the least.
The latex channels that run across the body look a bit like pool noodles and are very soft but also offer quite a bit of support - way more than I expected and somehow more than a super soft talalay topper I tried at a friends house. I like the design a lot better than the waffle design that most companies favor for their toppers. The channels can move with your body and you can remove stuffing at hip and shoulders for different zones- they also work well on a memory foam or latex mattress. The horizontal " noodles" do not make the surface much stiffer and are very flexible in all directions.
I slept well the first night and noticed a neat effect with the seam design - I can fit my shoulder bone and hip bone right on a seam between two " noodles" and it takes a lot of pressure off these areas even without any zoning. My arm also appreciated the pressure relief and I woke up with no numbness. I might have to play with firmness a little as this topper is really stuffed to the max.
I do not mind the ridge/noodle design even if it first reminded me of those old air mattress designs - they feel great once I lay down and provide a nicely ventilated and soft top layer.
I feel that this is an interesting and high quality product - can’t say much about comfort until I sleep on it for a few weeks but so far so good. It gives me the softness I like, some support and a great adjustability that I can’t achieve with a regular latex topper for those hard to please hips and shoulders …

after a few nights I realized that I need to take some latex out of the topper as it is just too firm/bouncy/high for me - this is again a messy job but gave me yet another pillow full of latex ( just buy those pillow protector sleeves with a zipper and you can make extra pillows ) - now it is more like the topper I wanted - gives me more of a featherbed feel without the compression- I have also tried it under a memory foam topper - which is a very interesting feeling and might be an option for people that need zoning for their shoulders and hips(?) … If I am completely honest I have to say that even though latex is comfortable I am more a memory foam person - the bounce back of the latex takes some getting used to- I have now tried latex toppers/layers, shredded latex and latex pillows and always end up covering them with memory foam :whistle: - I do love the latex pillow - it is heavenly once I had the perfect amount of filling figured out which took a while- it is much like my down pillow but doesn’t clump - I have gone though many pillows none of which I liked - this one will stay…
I think that the flobed topper is excellent - I have recommended it to the people in the retirement home for those that get sores or are recovering from surgery and need pressure relief in certain areas but not in others …
Hey! I’m new to this site and I have decided to go down the road of building my own mattress… one of the components I am extremely interested in trying is the shredded Talalay latex flow bed topper!
-I love the bouncy ness of Talalay but I miss the incredible softness of memory foam…
what are your long term opinions on this topper?
Do you think it is supporting enough to put another layer on top of it such as a memory foam layer or even a soft (19)ish blended Talalay 3" topper over this?
I wanted to thank flybear from 7 years ago for this post - it was really helpful to me in shopping for the Flobeds Shredded Latex Topper! Having tried it, I can attest that this review is still really accurate. I found this topper to be a versatile, cost-effective, and comfortable way to try to latex. It made a big difference to my too-firm mattress. Actually, at its full stuffing level, it’s pretty ideal for me.
While enjoying the topper, I’m now considering an upgrade to solid latex since I don’t love the channels and I overall prefer the feel of Dunlop. I was wondering if anyone knew, or there was any way to estimate, the ILD equivalent of this topper at its full stuffing level? I’m not sure which firmness would be most similar.
I’d respectfully suggest contacting Flobeds directly with your question regarding an equivalent ILD solid topper, they’d be most qualified to answer it correctly.
