flood protection

i like to edit my posts like every 5 seconds, but flood protection wants me to wait 60 seconds before i can fix a typo.

what sense does it make to use flood protection against EDITS ? i understand why letting somebody make new posts every millisecond could be a problem, but what does it matter how many edits does a person or bot make to the same post ?

if there is no way to turn off flood protection for edits only, maybe at least you could reduce the time to something like 15 seconds. i mean Usain Bolt could run 6 races in the time that the forum mandates that a single misspelled letter is fixed.

Hi g1981c,

Flood protection is a single setting and is used to protect the forum against spamming. There is no flood protection setting in the software that differentiates between edits and posting and it is a valuable option to protect against spammers that get through the other layers of security and try to flood the forum with their posts.

I choose 60 seconds because it discourages bots and 15 seconds wouldn’t be enough to prevent what the setting is trying to achieve. Just in the last couple of days there have been several spammers (either human or bots) that would clearly have posted more than the two or three posts they did if the flood protection was as low as 15 seconds. The small inconvenience to a few is well worth what it achieves to me.

i see. it is unfortunate that the software is not more flexible.
