Foam Base Dimensions

Hello Phoenix,

First off, I’d like to thank you for providing such a wealth of information on mattresses and how go about finding the right individual fit. I’ve been reading the forums and the site on and off for the past few months and it took a great deal of pain out of the buying process. Although I’ve been able to find the answer to most questions by searching the site, I’ve run into one issue that I’d like some additional feedback on.

I read the forum entry you put together on the options available for foam mattress bases url=https://forum.mattressunderground.com/t/the-best-foundations-or-base-for-a-latex-or-all-foam-mattress[/url] and perused the manufacturer links. I decided to order the high-rise by Malouf and just put it together last night. Unfortunately, I noticed that the measurements do not add up for a king size mattress. The constructed frame measures 74.5" x 77.5", which leaves a sizable portion of mattress hanging out over the edges of the frame. It states on their site that the dimensions are 76" x 80", so I’m not really sure what to make of it. Every foundation I’ve had before has been the exact size as the mattress, so I believe this would likely cause issues in the long run. Is this normal or have I likely received a defective product? I’d be more than attach photos if necessary.

Thanks once again!

Hi The Jolly Llama,

I’m not sure what the dimensions of the Malouf High Rise are supposed to be (and like you I usually see it listed as 76" x 80" or actually 2 x 38" x 80") but it’s not uncommon that a foundation is a little smaller than a mattress so it can fit inside a bedframe.

It wouldn’t harm your mattress but it does seem that the dimensions you listed are a little bit smaller than the norm so it may be worthwhile calling Malouf to ask them if this is their normal size.
