so i am considering a 2" layer of 8 LB Venus memory foam ( 12 ILD ) to go on top of my 19 ILD latex and below my SnugFleece wool pad.
problem is such a product is very easy to fake. even very complex products like studio microphones or audiophile headphones are constantly faked - by comparison faking a pice of foam should be a piece of cake. if i’m going to be paying $600 for a 2" piece of foam i have to know for a fact that it is genuine Foamex Venus.
and i’m leaning towards Amazon because it’s cheaper. both have free shipping and no tax, but it’s $658 from rocky vs 629 from Amazon.
maybe i can call up RockyMountain and ask them to match Amazon price ?
of course from Amazon you get the cover for free, with RMM you pay extra for cover ( which i don’t think i need ).
now i’m pretty sure RockyMountainMattress has the real Venus, but that Amazon stuff - i can only assume the white stuff in the picture is the cover - but they don’t even have a pic of the actual foam which makes me a bit nervous - because its a 50 pound 60 inch long box to ship back …
As you could probably guess, I personally think that an important part of the value of any purchase is knowing what you are buying and dealing with knowledgeable people but of course each person may have a different personal value equation.
well i called RMM around 5.20 PM eastern time and they took my phone number and said they will call me back when they get a chance.
nobody called me back. maybe they will call tomorrow.
you see that’s what i don’t like - all this calling back hours later business - what am i calling a food stamp office or something ? with Amazon i can call at 3AM in the morning and there is never more than 15 seconds wait.
it’s my second time calling them with a question - the first time they DID eventually return the call …
and on their own site it is even cheaper - $569 without cover - verus $658 from RMM - so a full $100 less ( shipping free in both cases ) …
the problem is on their own page they don’t even mention VENUS name at all, or the fact that it is made by foamex, and the picture looks like it is the actual foam in white, and not a cover !
Phoenix - does Foamex have a phone number i can call ? If Foamex tells me that this “ultimate 8” stuff is theirs then i will certainly believe them, however if the store tells me that their “ultimate 8” is Foamex Venus then i don’t think i will take their word - especially considering its different color !
but it appears to be white in color and not pink. furthermore they call it “ultimate 8” instead of just Foamex Venus, and in fact on their own site:
They are a large foam manufacturer though that has many distribution channels so they may not be able to tell you for certain if a particular retailer is selling their product from their own records. If it’s white then its not Venus even though it may be another type of high density memory foam.
woke up at 4.40 PM EST today - first thing i did was call FXI - they are also in EST time zone.
on the phone their option 8 was for “sales” and option 9 for “purchasing”. on 8 i got answering machine. on 9 too. i then started calling 8 and 9 back and forth and on about the third try 9 picked up and said that “purchasing” means purchasing raw chemicals for their foam and i need to call 8. i called 8 one more time but it was still answering machine and it was already 4.55 so i called it quits.
maybe i will wake up earlier tomorrow lol.
my sleep schedule right now doesn’t help at all …
ok so absolutecomfortonsale called me back again and said that the foam is in fact pink and that it is foamex venus and they have no idea what is on the picture …
i then asked them if they could email me a real picture of the foam, and mentioned that rockymountain will ship the actual foam sample - at which point the woman said so do we …
so i just gave them my address and they promised to ship me a 2 inch size sample of their 8 LB foam which they claim is Foamex Venus … i just hope their shipping is not as slow as Arizona Premium Mattress … and that their 8LB foam looks like this:
actually when i called them to ask about how my sample is doing ( delivery wise ) they told me one other person asked for the same sample, and i told them i knew who it was LOL
so you don’t think it is real ?
when i contacted Rocky Mountain Mattress they said they charge $10 for three samples ( even though their website says $7 ). if you doubt that it is real i guess you could order a sample from Rocky Mountain as well …
i also asked AbsoluteComfort if i could return the topper if it is fake and they said yes, as long as it is in like new, never used condition and i pay return shipping. a queen sized Venus topper would weigh 40 pounds though so it would probably cost like $100 to ship, but that’s still less than $560.
I have been sleeping on 4" of Foamex Aerus 4lb foam on top of 3" Foamex Reflex 1.8 lb 28 ILD foam on top of 3" Foamex Reflex 1.8 lb 35 ILD foam since 2006.
In 2009 I bought Anatomic Global 1" 8 lbs mattress topper off of Overstock.
I liked my mattress better than the equivalent Tempur Pedic at the time. I was worried at the time that my comfort layer was 4 lbs vs TP 5.34 lb memory foam.
I liked that it was cool without the "sinked in " feeling like I was enveloped by foam.
I suppose some people like that feeling.
I would expect Foamex 8lb Venus to be just as luxurious feeling if not better than TP HD 7 lbs foam,
On another front. I am looking at select foam 8 lbs soy gel foam.
On another thread Phoenix thinks highly of this outfit.
On their website they only sell their 8 lbs foam inside their mattress not as a stand alone piece.
Called them and they said they would sell me the foam by itself.
Never got back to me on price. It has been two days.
well that just shows what a noob i am when it comes to memory foam ! i didn’t know of any other 8 LB memory except Venus. i did know that Tempur HD is 7 lbs.
if you find a better foam than this pink stuff or an equally good one for less make sure to share the find !
