Foundation and Metal Frame for King Size Split Latex Mattress.

Hi Phoenix,

Before I start, Thanks for all the help! I would like to know if a Split Foundation for King Size SPLIT Latex mattress would be just as good as a solid one Frame Foundation? I’m bit concerned that the Split Foundation may cause the split in the latex mattress to be more evident or uncomfortable.

Second, how important is a Metal Frame, or just a foundation would do well enough. In case if I’ve to get one I’m planning on getting this one which is 9 legged and solid steel frame.

Please let me know!

Thanks,
Ashwin.

Hi ashwinivin,

If the split foundations don’t have any flex and have gaps between any slats that are less than 3" apart and your support system has good center support to the floor then there should be no difference and they would be fine. A foundation will only affect how a mattress feels if it has some flex or if the latex compresses into the gaps between the slats. A suitable foundation should have the same effect as putting the mattress directly on the floor.

A suitable metal frame will provide some additional height and it would also raise the foundation off the floor so that you can clean under the bed, so you don’t stub your toe on the foundation, have some storage under the bed, can move the bed more easily, and to provide better air circulation under the mattress compared to using the foundation directly on the floor. It also provides an attachment point if you wish to use a headboard or footboard. You could also use some legs attached to the foundation (such as the bedlegs here) instead of a steel bedframe although they wouldn’t be as strong or provide the same contact area and load bearing surface under the foundation as using a steel bedframe.

While it’s not “essential” … in most cases it’s “desireable”.
