Frame for latex

Hello! I have a flobeds V-Zone on top of a KT nomad frame. I’ve noticed after a little bit of experimentation that I sleep quite a bit better when the mattress is placed on top of the my carpeted floor. The carpet has a little give to it, just a nudge, and it allows me to sink into the latex layers more and not feel the bounce-back of my own energy. I can sleep quite comfortably on my side when it’s on the floor, but when it’s on the wooden frame, I usually wake up with at least a few aches and pains. I’m quite bony and need to develop muscle mass in my shoulders, and I’ve also gone ahead and ordered a wool topper from Plushbeds which should add some softness, but I’m curious if there are any ways I could make a frame that is supportive but like the carpet, allows the me to sink into the latex more. I’ve talked to Flobeds and they recommended a wool topper and possibly a layer of coir. I’m also planning on building my own bed frame (since i live next to a lumber mill) and was curious if there are any designs like the width or distance between slats that could increase or decrease softness. Alas I have a full sized bed or else I’d be looking into euro slats which seem designed for this very problem, but they don’t seem to come in full size. Any help or thoughts on this issue would be lovely. Finding the right sleeping solutions is quite a journey!

Hello Jacksonhp9.

Welcome to the Mattress Forum

It is good that you have been feeling more comfort while you sleeping with your mattress on the carpeted floor, but this is not the best solution long term for your latex mattress; as you likely already know, your mattress needs to breathe to help prevent mold and mildew problems from ocurring.

You are currently using a frome with 2.8" spacing between slats, and I would recomended a maximum of no more than 3" between slats for latex mattresses so I don’t know that the extra .20" between slats would make a huge difference, but you could give it a try. The other option is to contact the mattress retailer and ask if you can have more space between slats without jeopardazing mattress integrity.

The general rule with slatted bases is more space = softer feel, less space = firmer feel on the mattress.

Looking forward to hearing how your DIY bed frame goes. That’s pretty cool that you live next to a lumber yard!
