General advice for a couple with a weight and temperature difference

We’re talking about finally buying a new mattress after we’ve been sleeping on a 20+ year old pillow top spring mattress with a memory foam topper for a few years now (we got it from my parents when they upgraded). We’ve got a couple concerns and the information online is overwhelming!!
Some basic info:
Both of our BMI’s are under 30, im 5’2” and husband is 6’2”. He generally sleeps pretty hot where I’m usually comfortable. We watch tv before bed most nights so we like the idea of the adjustable base. We both like a soft mattress but since there’s a size difference, the amount of pressure relief or support can feel different between us.
Also, we’re in south Georgia so we can shop throughout Ga and throughout Florida as far as Orlando if we need to.

So here’s some the things we’re not sure on:

  1. Durability. We need this thing to last and want to avoid sagging as much as possible (duh). I’m reading that latex could be a good option but is it going to be soft enough?
  2. What are the general thoughts on sleep number? I like the idea of the two different sides and changing the firmness but are they going to last and do they actually provide pressure relief?
  3. Is an adjustable base fine as far as supporting the mattress and allowing it to last?
  4. If anyone in Georgia or Florida has a good place to go they recommend to try out good mattress options let me know!

Hola,

Sleep Number is not very good. Lots of hammocking. Air Pedic is better because there are 3 air chambers and hammocking is less.

Tempurature?

I have a BedJet and may try Chilipad Dock Pro (water cooled) over Eight Sleep.

John

We had a Sleep Number bed a bunch of years back. Loved it for the first year or so. Then hated it. The material of the bed I guess compressed over time, and then it was like we were laying on rock-hard air bladders all night. Even when we adjusted the bed softer, all we could feel was whatever material it was that was filled with air. It felt like a slab of rock. We kept it longer than we should have (we were young and bounced back from bad sleep a bit better back then). I’d personally not recommend Sleep Number.

Good luck finding what works for you and your husband!
