Been a while…
Realized Ghostbed revamped their lineup and after chatting with a rep, their original model has been replaced with the “Comfort Foam”, which has a different construction and no slow-visco memory foam.
Long story short, I’m in the market (again, after a couple years) for a new mattress, after DIY’ing for a while and ultimately getting a mattress from an independent manufacturer (over an hour away) that didn’t work out.
Ghostbed has been fairly transparent with their specs in the past and I’m just trying to confirm the density of the base 7" layer… the two, 2" layers above that are specialty/faster response foams that I’m not concerned about. Unfortunately, their customer service doesn’t have the specs on hand and they’re not listed on the site. A rep got back to me the other day and said 3 pcf for the base layer after checking with some “showroom manager”, which would mean the 7" base itself weighs over 60lbs in a mattress listed at 74 lbs. for a Queen. I said sorry, that has to be a mistake and requested (nicely) for an official confirmation of the accurate density.
Supposedly they’re going to get back to me but if anyone at MU is able to acquire the actual specs, I’d appreciate it. Also, with so many mattress companies making a point of listing “fiberglass free” and providing the general material for the FRB on their respective sites (inherent rayon/silica sock, etc.), it would be nice if Ghostbed took a cue and did the same. People are rightfully concerned after various issues with FR material imported from overseas (usually China) which contained potentially harmful forms of fiberglass (plenty of horror stories of fiberglass particles “spreading” from a mattress). I was a proponent of this type of transparency years ago and glad to see so many companies are no longer ignoring it.
