Ghostbed Radiance and shoulder issue

About seven weeks ago, I purchased the Ghostbed Radiance from the Costco.ca website after struggling with a latex mattress that had too much push back. It felt a lot better but my shoulders still don’t sink down enough so I’m still having shoulder pain. Reading the reviews for the mattress there are people who weigh less than me who love it, although they don’t mention their sleep positions. I’m wondering why other people are happy with the mattress but I’m struggling with it? Is there any possibility that the mattress will soften up more?

Another question I have, I’ve been going to physio for 12 weeks now for shoulder pain and it’s helped a lot but I’m not fully healing. My physiotherapist thinks I should buy a softer mattress. My initial thought is that a softer mattress won’t be supportive enough and will eventually breakdown after. Another concern is that I have scoliosis. The advice on the internet is always to sleep on a firmer mattress to help support the curves.

Thank you for reading and I would appreciate any advice.

Hey LongRoadRover.

Welcome back!

Sorry to hear about the shoulder pain. Sounds like it started about a month prior to buying your new mattress - is that right?

Did you have an injury?

Hi Nikki,

My shoulder pain actually started with the latex mattress. My shoulders didn’t sink down into it at all and eventually, I started to have shoulder pain. I went to physio 12 weeks ago and I was getting better but not completely healing so I decided to try another mattress. That was when I purchased the Ghostbed Radiance seven weeks ago.

Shoulder pain while side sleeping with scoliosis often means the mattress isn’t allowing enough pressure relief at the shoulder while still supporting proper spinal alignment. Natural latex tends to contour well while remaining responsive, which is why many side sleepers find it more supportive than traditional memory foam over time.

For situations like yours, Naturepedic, Berkeley Ergonomics, and Whitney Natural all offer configurations that balance pressure relief with good spinal support. Since you’re already working with a physical therapist, their recommendations can also help guide firmness selection.
