This is on Craigslist, and has been for about a year as the price drops lower and now are asking $775 Does anyone have information regarding its construction? Google searching found a little stored information from the HBS site indicating the top and core were latex. Unclear when it was sold.
the photo of the mattress label also states Healthy Back Green. Healthy Back Sleep System
MATTRESS - KING SIZE: HEALTHY BACK STORE / F-1 BackTex Firm latex mattress.
New this sold for 1,700.
Great for back or stomach sleepers.
Manufactured by SEALY for Healthy Back.
Used sporadically for 2 years with a mattress cover since I am away from home much of the time.
It is now in storage and not being used. Since it is in storage it can not be “tried out” since there is no room to lay it down.
No stains or tears.
I did a net search and came up with this. Personally, I wouldn’t buy a mattress I couldn’t try out. If you do some reading on this site you will find great help for picking out a mattress. Lew
One of the members here posted a link to the description on the Healthy Back site but for some reason it was deleted so I’m including it in my reply as well.
Unfortunately it doesn’t provide any information about the layering or materials although I suspect it is a latex hybrid (some latex over some polyfoam). I don’t see information indicating it has a latex support core.
If it was manufactured by Sealy then it may also contain their synthetic latex called “smart latex” which was produced by Sapsa.
I think the best odds may be to call some of the Healthy Back outlets to see if any of them either remember or have access to the layering that was inside it.
I found a post on another forum that thinks it is a Sealy Spring Free and this Healthy Back Store listing for their F-3 version of the mattress which compares it to the F-1. I think the F-1 is firmer and the F-2 and F-3 softer:
Feel better than ever before with our new exclusive Healthy Back SleepSystem BackTex F-3 mattress. A revolutionary alternative to memory foam designed for ultimate back support and stressless sleeping. The F-3 features over 8-inches of luxury latex core consisting of three layers of latex support to provide edge-to-edge pressure relieving comfort and therapeutic support for a deep natural sleep experience. The F-3 also features a super soft comfort hold foam in the quilt, and layers of Sealy Foam and SuperSoft Comfort Foam in the Comfort Layer which the F-1 and F-2 does not feature.
The naturally healthy latex core features Instant-Response Zero-Pressure support that is naturally breathable and anti-microbial to promote a cool and comfortable sleeping.
The layers of polyfoam in the upper layers of the mattress was the “weak link” of the Spring Free models (you are sleeping on polyfoam not latex with all the inherent issues that goes with this). It’s also the weak link of the Stearns & Foster Luxury Latex mattresses which are essentially the same as the old Sealy Spring Free line.
They were (and are) a lot of money to pay for sleeping on mostly synthetic latex with fairly thick polyfoam layers on top (the amount of the polyfoam depends on the model and the firmness level with the firmer models having less of it).
I agree, I wonder what their thinking is from a design and marketing view. It appears to ruin the benefits of latex by placing a poly foam comfort layer on top. It must save them a few bucks per mattress, then they probably hope the life is shorter so you will buy another mattress from them that much sooner. I will pass on this one.
I did find a Cozy Pure queen size that would work in my spare bedroom, the one my insomniac wife visits… on craigslist for $850 that was about $3,000 new. Below are the seller’s responses to my inquiries.
That company does not take any returns. I tried. They said they’d help me sell it but never did.
it’s the Pure Performance Perfection, although the model has changed a bit. Mine is a 7" core instead of 6" and it has a removable pillow-top layer of softer latex w wool and cotton, which allows for 3 different firmnesses. The price I paid was higher…and mine comes with a custom base (around $500).
It’s 2.5 yrs old, but has been in my guest bedroom unused. I initially bought it for myself and a girlfriend. It was shipped to her place in Gaithersburg but never set up there. The relationship ended before the bed was opened. I then tried it myself at my place and for whatever reason, do not sleep well on it. But it is a beautiful, high quality mattress that a couple guests have tried and loved. Would give to family but they are not in need and live up in PA.
If you are comfortable with buying a used mattress … the Cozy Pure certainly looks like much better value than the F1. They make very high quality mattresses and if you are confident that it will match your needs and preferences (or could be fine tuned to do so) it would be a much better choice IMO.
