I am 66 years old, weight 165, 5’3" tall, I have wide shoulders ,hips , and pelvic area ,with narrower waistline,. I am heavier on the bottom through the hips and pelvic area than the top even though my shoulders are wide as well, so would I guess i would be considered pear shaped weight wise. I am mostly a side sleeper but do sometimes start off on my back for a short period, and will also sleep on my side/stomach with one leg straight and one leg bent sometimes to relieve the pressure on my knees when laying on my side which I do use a small pillow between my knees. I have had 2 shoulder surgeries, 1 on each side, for rotator /bicep repairs, and 2 knee surgeries for meniscus repairs, 1 on each side as well so not sure if any of this matters if I could get my alignment right on the mattress. I seem to be always going downhill from my pillow and shoulders (have tried multiple pillow depths) down to my middle area and then back up in my lower half and end up with a sort of V-shape in the middle and always sloping at a downward angle.and not a straight line like I would be if I was standing up in a walking position. It seems like the softer beds increase the depth of the v-shape because it gives more in the lower heavier half of my body and not at my shoulders which are wide but lighter in weight.
I have already tried the Tempur-pedic Lux Adapt Firm, Pro Adapt Hybrid Medium, Adapt Medium, Intellibed-Starlight (which did not notice that my back was as bad but did hurt in hips and shoulders due to the firmness so started to look for other options), Sealy Copper II Firm Hybrid, So found your sight and thought I had it figured out and drove up to Oklahoma mattress Company (by the way Jim could not be any nicer guy) picked out a firm talalay base (which he made to be 8 1/2 inches to try to match up my side with the coil mattress my husband picked out) and a 3" talalay medium comfort layer. The two layers are in separate covers. We also bought a 2" soft topper in its own cover so have even tried that one on top of the other 2 to see if I could get it softer on my shoulders but it made my alignment worse. Thought this would solve my problem but am still having severe back soreness every morning which can last most of the day. I was almost in tears yesterday morning as this has gone on so long I have become weary and I do not know where to turn or what to do next, so am getting pretty desperate. I have gone to the Texas back institute and they did an Xray to see if they could see if I have any disc problems and they said my spine looked really good so did not do anything else. I have also gone to the chiropractor for 2 months to be adjusted and it has not relieved my pain either so I really think it is the bed causing the pain. Would appreciate any help you could offer.

Obviously it’s very hard to comment on people’s medical situations but assuming it is the bed causing your issue it really sounds like a textbook case for zoning. I know you’ve spent alot already trying to solve your issue and but then again what’s it really worth to get a good night’s sleep (I certainly put a premium on it myself). I would also be very surprised if any off the shelf mattress solution would really give you what you want in this case. My suggestion would be to contact Flobeds and ask them about their V-Zone mattress options. Having gone through similar difficulties myself I’d be they will be able to get you a setup that will help solve your issue.
