Hoping you all can steer me in the right direction. After reading through the excellent info on the site, my partner and I tried out some local mattress options and decided we like latex hybrids best. The challenge is we can’t find any good value options (trying to stay around $1500 or less) we like that we could have made locally (within 3 hours of Raleigh, NC). I’m very afraid to buy something without trying it out first. I’ve tried out many latex hybrids that I didn’t like at all and I tend to be pretty indecisive. The ones we do like are: Avocado Green Mattress in firm with their 2” plush talalay topper added (my partner preferred the 3” but it was too squishy for me” and the Naturepedic EOS with plush coils, then medium then soft latex layers. I hated the OMF latex hybrid (felt like I’d bounce right off it) and didn’t love any of the Avocado’s that had the plush layer attached to the mattress.
Also, I don’t care if it’s organic or “natural,” we just happened to like the feel of the organic brands.
Any advice on where to start looking to recreate something similar to the ones we liked with online manufacturers? And is it possible to find something you like without trying first when feel is so subjective?

Yes and no. This is why recommend going with companies with extensive sleep trials and great exchange/return policies. Since it sounds like plush mattresses are the fit for you guys you may wish to consider the Nest Bedding Sparrow or their Natural Hybrid.
The DLX LatexLuxe is also a worthy contender, and the SleepEZ hybrid uses soft latex.

I’ve gathered some more information from in store shopping and have a few other questions for the experts:
We like the feel of really soft Talalay, like 14 ild (SavvyRest vitality and avocado plush toppers) but I’m worried about longevity. I thought I read on TMU that blended Talalay has better durability than even Dunlop, is that correct? Would blended Talalay feel very different than natural? I don’t see many blended Talalay options for sale with trusted members or anywhere reputable.
We liked the Suite Sleep Portfolio bed in plush (6” firm Dunlop, 2” soft Dunlop, 3” soft Talalay which I think may be 14 ild). Can anyone confirm the ild specs on the Suite Sleep? Would I be able to recreate it with a DIY build? The cover is really plush, which would be hard to recreate.
