My spouse and I have slept happily for 15 years on a Tempur-Cloud Supreme. We decided recently to upgrade to a king bed, so this was a chance to update our mattress as well. The salesperson suggested a Medium would map to this the softness of our previous mattress, and it seemed fine the 5 minutes we laid on it, so we got the Tempur-Breeze in Medium.
It arrived two days ago and I have never been in so much pain. I think sleeping on the floor might genuinely be more comfortable. I am not a picky sleeper and I can sleep in any hotel bed. This is like an exquisitely crafted torture chamber.
We’ve spent twenty minutes before bed the last two nights walking and crawling around the mattress trying to get it to loosen up but I genuinely don’t know what to do. It’s 3:30am and I haven’t slept a wink tonight.
I am fairly certain we are going to need a soft. Is there an extra-soft? Are we going to be stuck with this for 30 days while they wait for it to “soften”? I honestly don’t know how I’m going to last that long without sleep.
Tough situation. You might want to get a 2nd mattress and alternate between them. Joke: hire someone to sleep on it for 30 days for you (outsourcing)! Jk!
The Tempurpedics have a reputation for being too soft overall.
Ride out the 30 days and then make a decision. Maybe get a 2nd mattress to “take a break” with.
My Tempurpedic Deluxe had almost no break in period, but that was 20 years ago.
Which Breeze model did you get? ProBreeze or LuxeBreeze?
You’ll probably need to give it more break-in time. However, since you loved your Cloud Supreme, you may need something softer. If your retailer allows exchanges, you could try the Tempur-LuxeBreeze Soft, it’s plusher, sleeps about 8–10°C cooler, and offers 30% more pressure-relieving material than the ProAdapt line. Or consider the Tempur-LuxeAdapt Soft, similar softness and support, just without the Breeze line’s active cooling. Sadly, Tempur-Pedic doesn’t make an “extra-soft” option anymore. If you’re stuck with this Medium model for now, adding a 1–2" soft topper could help until you can exchange or break it in.
I bought a temperpedic..temper lux adapt in soft..slept on it 30 days..not counting the nights I came to the sofa…I beleive it let my hips sink..I only weigh 110..side sleeper. Hated it. Now I have no mattress. Lol will be calling a few places Monday..research research.then I’m calling to talk to prob 3 places I scoped out
If latex is not your thing @yawnder and @BackScience can offer some nice ready to go options and backscience will customize their selections if needed.
Keep in mind that Tempurpedic is viscoelastic memoryfoam and it is heat sensitive. Even if you do not sleep hot, it transfers the heat from your body and the tempur material will go from firm to softer while you are on it. Some folks like this transition while others end up with sore muscles due to sinking issues.
Many of the trusted member experts here would be more than happy to talk this issues out with you to make a better educated decision without even having to test it in a showroom first.
The folks at @DLX and @EngineeredSleep are a couple of many others who will walk you through to make a best educated decision.
Sorry about grammar and spelling, the plane is a little bumpy, lol.
As @Maverick mentioned, it sounds like you would do better with more buoyancy than certainly what a softer memory foam provides. My background a Doctor of Chiropractic and mattress designer for 20+ years is what brought about our Back Science mattress, which offers a solution to the problem of how you can get a mattress to be soft enough for the shoulders, but still keep the hips lifted to provide the necessary back support to your spine in a more perfect alignment.
The Hypergel used in Back Science has a supple, yet springier feel that is somewhere between latex and memory foam. The special patent pending Lumbar-Flex zoning helps provide the center hip/low back support that prevent the hips from hammocking down into the mattress. Specifically, the Back Science Series 2 and 3 would both work to keep the hips from dropping down, with the Series 2 being the best for all sleeping positions and having that more Luxury-Firm feel/support, whereas the Series 3 is the best for side sleepers and those who want more of a medium feel/support.
As @BillyIdol mentioned, the Tempflow mattress does have a more dense memory foam that would be an improvement for sure, but it does not automatically come with the Lumbar-Flex zoning system, but that is something could be added on at the time the order is placed.
Take a look at our www.BackScience.com and www.Tempflow.com websites at your convenience and feel free to contact us anytime via our website or by calling 800 667-1969 and we would be happy to personally assist you with finding the right choice for your next mattress.
Thanks!
