Help narrowing down the options

My wife has Rheumatoid arthritis and CMT (genetic neurological condition) both cause a lot of pain and discomfort.
I myself have severe spinal injuries, 2 lumar surgeries and currently trying to avoid a massive neck surgery. I have several herniated and ruptured disc that are spilling disc fibers and fluid into spinal canal and against spinal cord.
We prefer to side sleep but that has became challenging. So end up back sleeping.
We have owned numerous mattresses currently have the puffy monarch split king with adjustable bases. It is too firm for our side sleeping.
Others owned and return sealy, stearns and foster, memory foam, hybrid, and spring mattresses. Hybrids have been the best for comfort and support in the needed areas. Wife is hour glass figure. I am athletic build / V- shape.
Any suggestions or questions are very much needed

Hi Leroy; There are many hybrid mattresses that might be a good solution for you. We are a “natural” mattress store so my options are hybrid mattresses that use individually pocketed coils and natural latex as the comfort layer. I think testing out different densities of natural latex will help with some of your sleep issues, will be cooler than traditional foams, and last a long time. Try out hybrids which have the ability to swap out layers so that you can dial in both you and your wife’s needs. Two options which we have experience with is the Naturepedic EOS Classic mattress and the WilliamsCo York mattress. There are other natural hybrid options through other members of TMU. Try some out if they are available in your area and if you have any specific questions just ask here in the forum.

Hello,

I would be happy to offer some insight and advice based on my 25 years of experience as both a mattress designer and a Doctor of Chiropractic.

Dealing with Rheumatoid arthritis, CMT, and severe spinal injuries simultaneously makes finding the right mattress incredibly challenging. When an hourglass figure and a V-shape athletic build attempt to sleep on their sides on a mattress that is too firm, the shoulders and hips cannot sink in deeply enough. This causes severe pressure points on the joints—which aggravates RA—and forces the spine out of alignment, which can exacerbate herniated discs and neck pain.

To sleep comfortably on your sides, you both require a balanced approach that allows for the shoulders to penetrate more easily than the more heavier mid-section, while still providing robust support for the lower back.

Because you have already discovered that hybrids offer the best combination of comfort and support for your needs, I highly recommend the Back Science Series 3 Hybrid in a Split King to pair with your adjustable bases. I created Back Science to help with this exact type of scenario by utilizing the following:

1. Elite Pressure Relief: The Series 3 is our most plush and luxurious model. It features a thick, highly efficient pressure-relieving comfort layer designed specifically to cushion the shoulders and hips, which is vital for side sleeping with severe joint and nerve sensitivities.

2. True Lumbar Support: Both an hourglass figure and a V-shape build require immense center-support to prevent the waist from sagging. Back Science utilizes our patent-pending Lumbar-Flex™ Zoned Support. It actively reinforces the center third of the bed, giving the lower back the rigid, elevated support it needs without making the top of the bed feel like a rock.

3. A Customizable Solutions: After returning numerous mattresses, the last thing you want is another difficult return process. While most customers find their Back Science mattress to be perfect from the get go, should you find that the mattress is too firm or too soft, we offer free customizations at no cost whatsoever to ensure that the mattress properly suits your needs. This is easily accomplished thanks to our GripLock modular cover system, whereby we can exchange internal components that will change the level of firmness and support of the mattress right from your own home.

You can explore our designs and how our zoning works at www.BackScience.com. I would love to help you both finally get a comfortable night’s sleep. Please feel free to reach out to us directly at 800-667-1969 to discuss a build for your Split King setup. Also, don’t forget to use the code TMU10 for your Mattress Underground member discount.
