Help - Need Organic Latex or Latex Hybrid Mattress - Overwhelmed and Lost

Hello TMU and the community - thank you for the guidance and offering any insight. We are looking to buy organic certified latex or latex hybrid KING mattress and have just got lost in the dizzying array of options as well as marketing speak. Below is what I have narrowed it down to and looking for suggested brands and lines that fulfill below criteria

  1. Size King
  2. All Latex or Latex Hybrid - Organic (aka Dunlop) and All Natural no fillers no synthetics (if Talalay).
  3. Must have these certifications - GOTS, GOLS AND (OEKO - Tex 100 or Greenguard Gold) ideally directly to them
  4. We are 5’5" - 140lbs and 6’5" 190 lbs - slender athletic and combination sleepers (side and back)
  5. Looking to spend max $4,500 and something that is medium firm/cushion firm - firm
  6. If the brand has a pillow top option will be great but not required

The DIY latex option is daunting right now since we feel don’t have enough experience or knowledge to put together the right stack for us.

These we have eliminated - Avacado, Birch (due to no GOTS), Saatva (due to no GOTs, though we liked their Zenhaven latex mattress)

Thank you so much!

Hi CSMAT,

Welcome to The Mattress Underground — great to have you here.

Based on everything you’re looking for, the two options that stand out the most to me are Naturepedic (@thecleanbedroom) and My Green Mattress (@My_Green_Mattress). Naturepedic checks every certification box and lets you customize each side, which is super helpful when you have two different body types and sleep styles. Their pillow top option also gives you a little extra pressure relief without losing support. MGM is more budget friendly but still uses really solid natural materials, and their latex hybrid models tend to offer a nice balance of comfort and support without the higher price tag.

One thing I like to mention is that just because a mattress doesn’t list GOTS or GOLS doesn’t automatically mean the latex isn’t up to those standards. Those certifications cost money, and some companies skip them to keep prices down rather than because the materials aren’t good. The industry is also starting to move toward a newer certification called Moreganic, which focuses more on regenerative farming and transparent supply chains. So in the near future, you may see mattresses with different labels that still represent excellent quality, sometimes even better than the older certifications.

I would check with any company that you have tested and liked to ask what their reasoning is for not becoming certified. Companies like @Sleep_EZ , @Arizona_Premium and others which often craft their mattresses with both Dunlop and Talalay, would not normally offer or have available all the certifications you mention, due to the processes and additives in which they are manufactured.

While DIY may be intriguing and in some, but not all cases, cost effective, TMU has a wealth of information and Trusted Member Manufacturers that can help you craft a mattress that meets all your specifications. I am not suggesting that you could not craft a DIY yourself, but you will move forward with more confidence if you collaborate with a folks who do this every day thousands of times each year. They typically do not miss a beat when crafting a mattress. Nor do some of the other TM’s who provide ready to go mattresses, as they are well thought out and offer models that are great fits for a variety of sleepers.

Happy Thanksgiving and all the best on your mattress journey.

Maverick
