Help with latex matress

After looking at all the mattress website and then eventually here…I’m pretty confused

Been looking for a king bed that keeps me cool. I think latex is the way to go.

I’m a stomach and side sleeper and the wife is a side sleeper mostly.

I narrowed the search down to customizable mattress from plush bed or sleeping organic.

Looking for any advice on which company people prefer and which combination of latex layers would be best?

Hey Neel1109,

Welcome to the Mattress Underground  ! Thanks for your question.

Congrats on your new mattress shopping journey  ! You will find many educational resources here on the TMU Forum and (spoiler alert) I will be pointing you towards several articles to start you in the right direction.

Thanks for sharing your and your wife’s preferred sleep positions Neel1109, as these can have a big effect on the type, softness, and thickness of the comfort layers you choose and on the type of support materials and mattress construction that is best for you. It would also be helpful to know both your heights/ weights to better understand your BMIs, as a body’s shape and weight distribution both play important roles in understanding which materials are best suited for those. While pressure relief and spinal alignment are the two most important functions of a mattress, your own unique needs, sensitivities, and how you are put together will make a big difference in the materials and construction that is most suitable for you, you can learn more from Phoenix’s article, “Determining Your Personal Statistics”.

A customizable mattress can be a suitable choice when you have a good understanding of your personal preferences and mattress materials/ construction that work best with those. Also important would be access to an experienced manufacturer/ retailer who would work with you personally to guide you through the component selection process. More questions for you: what brand mattress/ model are you currently sleeping on? What are some of the qualities that you like about it and what are some that you do not like? You mentioned latex above; have you slept on a latex mattress before? Are you located in an area where there are COVID-19 safe mattress showrooms for comparison testing?

When you have time, it’s a good idea to prepare in advance of your initial shopping, these articles “Mattress Shopping Guidelines: Finding the Best Quality and Value”, “Finding a Great Mattress Outlet” and “Mattress Specifications You Need to Know” discuss considerations before making a mattress purchase and tips for working with a manufacturer (how to shop, questions to ask, etc). While its good to hear other consumers’ thoughts regarding “which combination of latex layers would be best?”, each consumer’s experience will vary based on their individual preferences as only you can “feel” what you feel on a particular mattress, especially in terms of comfort and support with latex layering options.

Hope you find these articles helpful and looking forward to hearing your updates  .

Thanks,
Sensei
