I’ve had my purple hybrid 3 for 5 months, and the first few were awesome! But the grid system started losing support and now I’m waking up with back pain. Too late to return, and won’t be covered by warranty — huge bummer! I’m hoping for advice on how I might approach replacing the 3" grid layer since I’d hate to have to get a new mattress, or any other advice would be appreciated. From what I can tell, it goes straight from the springs to the grid, little if any transition material.
Some info about me: 6’2", 185 pounds, 30 yo, tendency toward lower back/hip pain, sleep hot but not as bad as some. Combo sleeper, but mostly use a side/stomach hybrid position with left arm under head pillow, right leg slightly bent and that hip supported by another pillow that I hug with my right arm. Requires a lot of support without too much sink, but still pressure relief. I sometimes wake up on my back and like the option to sleep on my side.
The best mattress I’ve had was an original tuft and needle, which only lasted 2 years, but felt like it was on the firm side of medium-firm with a hint of memory foam sink. Also loved the initial experience with a nectar (very memory foamy), but it lost support after only 6 months. Found avocado mattress too unforgiving and didn’t love the feel of latex, and now that I’ve ruled out purple, I think I’m a memory foam guy!
So, is it realistic to replace grid on purple mattress and is 3" enough to work with to have the effect I want, or should I be looking elsewhere? Looks like there’s 6 inches of edge support foam all around the mattress (CA king) — could I buy foam in queen size and cut it to fit inside? I’m thinking 1 inch of firm-ish latex, with 2 inches of dense gel infused memory foam on top, but would love suggestions as I’m new to this. Links to actual products would be extra helpful. Really, any help would be appreciated! I can’t believe how much I spent on this mattress only for it not to work
