Help with secondhand purchase

Hi all! We are not really in a position right now with a big budget but are looking to upgrade our mattress, since I’ve just been in too much pain in the last few months with the one we’ve been using. We don’t have enough to buy something new, so we are looking to purchase off of Facebook marketplace. There is a lot of beds for sale in our area luckily, so we actually have quite a few options. For the best price we have narrowed it down to a sealy posturpedic newfield cushion firm or a joybed lxp. Stays female 138 lbs with wide hips and male 205 lbs. we both have chronic joint conditions with hypermobility. Between these two options could I get some guidance. We aren’t looking for any other recommendations at this time because these two mattresses we could get for about $100 each, which is perfect for our budget. Thank you!

Try them out both and pick one or buy them both!!!

John

Any way you can try them? I think these are going to feel pretty different, so if they are your only two options it should be pretty easy to choose based on which feels best to you.

I was able to try the sealy. It felt soft to me despite being a firm which was good because we both prefer medium mattresses. We wouldn’t the able to try the other one most likely because it’s further away and we would likely only make the drive to pick it up.

If your budget for the mattress is $100, and the Sealy felt OK to you (and physically looked OK), I’d go ahead and get that one. Options are extremely limited at that price point.

Hi! Given your situation and the options you’re considering, you might want to focus on the support and comfort level that best suits your needs. The Sealy Posturepedic Newfield Cushion Firm is known for its supportive structure, which might help with alignment and reduce joint pain, especially given your hypermobility. It’s designed to support body weight evenly, which could be beneficial for reducing pressure points. On the other hand, the Joybed LXP is more focused on natural materials and breathability, which might offer a softer feel but may not provide the same level of support as the Sealy. Considering your weight differences and specific conditions, I’d lean towards the Sealy for more consistent support. Remember to inspect the condition of any secondhand mattress thoroughly before purchasing. Hope this helps!
