Here we go (again)......

Well, in light of recent discoveries:

  • I apparently have a herniated disk
  • My husband who must have a FIRM mattress, actually selects a very soft one when given the opportunity
  • We are both sleeping more on our sides & hot

We at least have a bit of insight into maybe some of our mattress fails of late

After much debate, we are finally pulling the trigger on a Tempurpedic Flex Supreme Breeze. We are “hoping” that maybe this will meet a mixture of our needs. I really like memory foam, but husband doesn’t like the “heavy sinking” feeling and “heat” of most memory foam. We do like the responsiveness of the springs, paired with hopefully the memory foam benefits. Even I am hot lately, so we’re excited about the Breeze to top it all off. This should be a medium (to very slightly soft) mattress, so hopefully we’ll find a good balance here.

It definitely may be in my head, but for whatever reason, everyone I know with Tempur mattresses (and it’s a lot) RAVES about them, literally. The curiosity is killing this cat and I’ve been wanting to give it a shot for several years, but husband didn’t want to spend the $$ (no doubt not top of the value pile), along with the heat + sinking. I guess the back thing is good for one thing – husband now says to buy whatever mattress I want! Ha ha, but of course I want him to be happy with this also.

So, fingers crossed for finding balance :o

Hi SleeplessinDallas,

I’m sorry to hear about your herniated disc and it could certainly be part or even all of the reason you have had more than your share of challenges in finding a mattress that works well for you over the longer term.

As you know I wouldn’t consider Temperurpedic mattresses to be particularly good quality/value choices and in the case of the Flex Supreme (unlike most of their foam mattresses) it also includes slightly lower quality/density foam than I would normally suggest (2.5" of 1.6 lb polyfoam) which could be a weak link in the mattress in terms of durability and the useful life of the mattress but I also believe that how well a mattress “matches” your specific needs and preferences in terms of comfort, firmness, and PPP (Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and your own Personal preferences) is the most important part of the “value” of a mattress purchase so if you end up sleeping well on the Tempurpedic Flex Supreme Breeze for a longer period of time than some of the other mattresses you have tried then the tradeoff with the slightly lower quality materials and much higher price compared to other similar mattresses you’ve tried could well be worth it to you.

I hope you have the chance to share some updates with your comments and feedback once you’ve had the chance to sleep on it for a bit and over the longer term as well.

I also really hope that your choice works out well for you this time … and congratulations on your new mattress
