how washable is Snugsoft ?

this thing: Dreamsoftbedware.com

i’m going to assume for the time being that this is Snugsoft ( the poly backed one ) not Snugfleece ( cotton backed one ). i will e-mail or call to double check prior to ordering. mattresses.net has it of course but for about $30 more.

anyway how washable is it ? i need to be able to machine wash it ( cold ) and machine dry it ( no heat ).

i would put it on top of a regular wool topper and below a cotton pad - so it would be a sort of a “progressive” contruction where the top cotton pad layer would be mostly for protection - to absorb body oils and skin particles. the bottom regular wool topper layer would be there mostly for temperature and moisture regulation and cushioning. and the middle Snugsoft layer would do double duty - it would provide both protection against oil and particles ( thus must be washable ) as well as some temperature and moisture regulation and cushioning.

so:

  • cotton pad
  • snugsoft ( polyester backing )
  • wool topper

of course this only works if i can actually wash the snugsoft. the reason i hope this can be done is the polyester backing. i’m not in a rush - i can have it tumble in the dryer with no heat for as long as it takes ( my mother always puts the drier or high and ruins everything because she always seems to be in a rush, but i’m not like that ) but i don’t have the space to hang it out to dry in my city apartment.

the Snugsoft provides less cushioning and less wool per dollar than some other wool toppers, but if it is in fact washable this changes everything - because it actually provides more wool per dollar than the so-called washable wool pads which aren’t all that washable - just barely so.

of course the reason i’m leaning to Snugsoft over so-called washable pads is because it has more feedback - plus it should be softer as well ( compared to “washable” pads which barely have any wool in them ).

what say you ?

by the way i e-mailed them and asked about care instructions - so on monday hopefully i will have the official answer. but official answer doesn’t necessarily represent reality though.

i also e-mailed these guys:

http://www.organictextiles.com/products/latex-mattresses/mattress-pads/

and asked about the care instructions for their organic cotton mattress pad as well.

both products have equally positive reviews on Amazon.

i’ll wait until mid-day monday to give them a chance to respond to my e-mails then i will probably order one of them or maybe both.

received reply from Snugfleece:

so i would translate it as - washable, but only as means of last resort …

in any case i placed an order for SnugFleece Elite with DreamSoft bedware via Amazon.

the prudent course of action now i think is to wait until i can try how it feels before ordering anything to go on top of it, based on how much of the SnugFleece do i want to feel through the cover.

i might also put a thicker normal type wool topper underneath it at some point in the future. the idea behind getting the SnugFleece is that it is a semi-washable plush surface, which also happens to be wool - and i can always put more substantial wool topper underneath it later.
