Hunting for the right mattress

Hello Phoenix,
I came upon your site when I wanted to see reviews about the saatva mattress. I saw your post about the false information they state on their website and I was then shocked to read more and more and saw how much goes into buying a mattress. I liked saatva at first (since its an online company) because if I didn’t like it I could get my money back less the return shipping costs. But what bothered me was their whole premise behind their company is honest and no gimmicks; but then why provide false information on their website when doing comparisons?!. (Sorry about the rant)

I decided to join you’re website because i realized i really needed to do research first. Also because i desperately need a new mattress. I am 22 and was diagnosed with degenerative disk disorder at 18. Due to my budget I couldn’t really afford a new mattress. Now I am moving into my my apartment and this 13 year old mattress I am sleeping on is just not cutting it.

I am 5’4 and 160. I have slept on a tempurpedic at my aunts place and hated it, i woke with a dull back ache that would last half the morning. I am a stomach sleeper to get to sleep, but then end up on my side or back in the morning. I loved custom designs but its just too costly for me. Everyone seems to give great reviews about the ultimate dream mattress and its also in a price range I can afford. But I am terrified of spending 600 bucks and hating it. I live in central jersey do you think i should just try the big commercial stores? (I am sorry for this long winded message, but you seem like the ultimate mattress guru…when reading your post I thought I should start taking notes

Hi dreambig09,

I’m not so sure I would call it “false” information as much as misleading, incomplete, or inaccurate and encouraging consumers to make “apples to oranges” comparisons that shows their mattresses in a better light than they may deserve. This type of misleading and “partly true” information is typical of much of the mattress marketing information in the industry today.

The first place I would start your research is post #1 here which has the basic information, steps, and guidelines you will need to make the best possible decisions. It will hopefully keep you out of any of the chain stores and away from major brands as well.

When you get to step 3 … if you let me know your city or zip code (instead or your region or state) I’d be happy to let you know of the better options or possibilities I’m aware of in your area.
