I can't take this anymore -would love some advice!

Since last year I’ve been looking and reading about mattresses. I go off in one direction, sure, and then something redirects me. I just need some help figuring out exactly what I need and where to get it!

The mattresses in showrooms that we’ve liked we’re called "rocks"by the sales people. last night I laid on the icomfort Genius by Serta - a very firm gel memory foam - and fell in love. However, I don’t want to sleep on petrochemicals. I’d really like a natural latex that felt similar. I don’t mind if it’s latex over foam, as long as it’s a good mattress.

I am so confused though - I’m almost ready to give up and just sleep on the floor! We’re looking to spend no more than $1,000-1,300. I don’t mind mail order. We’re mainly side sleepers with back issues, but both hate the sinking-in feeling - we like it pretty firm, but obviously more supportive than the floor.

I have read so much that I don’t know what to do anymore. I would be so happy if someone could direct me to a decent company/companies and tell me what I need to order. Seriously. I would be so greatful.

Only the rich can afford to buy cheap. I’m sure that there is something out there that is both inexpensive and good, but it’s often worthwhile to spend a bit more to get quality in my opinion.

I had great service from SleepEZ but need to be clear I have only been on my new set for a few weeks. 3-5 years from now is when this system should start showing it’s worth.

Hi Wildgirl,

The first place I would start is post #1 here and the information it links to which is the most important post on the forum. It will help steer you in the right direction and help you make much better choices.

As you will read in the last link … it’s usually more effective to first figure out where to get it (and find the better factory direct manufactures and better sleep shops in your area) and then start the process of deciding what to buy … with the help and guidance of an “expert”. When you “find the experts” then you don’t need to become one yourself or learn what they already know.

The guidelines will also help you understand why to avoid the major brands … and most of the stores that sell them. You can spend a lot of time here and still have no idea what you are buying because they won’t tell you what is in your mattress. if someone is trying to sell you an iComfort and tells you it’s “high quality” I would just ask them how they know when they have no idea about the quality of the materials (foam densities) that are in the mattresses they are selling. Dealing with people that put your interests over their profit or “the sale” will lead to a much better quality and value mattress that actually “fits” your needs and preferences … including your budget.

If you let me know your city or zip I’d be happy to let you know about the better options or possibilities I’m aware of in your area.
