Thanks for taking time to read this post!
I take care of an elderly man who is 6’ 2" tall weighing 200-230 depending on various factors. He is a side sleeper 90-95% of the time. He is a naturally cold sleeper and keeps his house at 77Degrees to stay warm so cooling mattress is not a positive thing with him. The problem with his current mattress is primarily when he gets in and out of bed as well as getting dressed the edge of the bed compresses and he keeps sliding off and onto the floor. He cannot get back up from the floor with out assistance and has at times been stuck on the floor for hours until caregivers arrive in the morning. So solid edge support so he can get in and out as well as put on clothes is the biggest factor. I have searched for hours and hours to find the best choice for him and in the end I feel like every opinion I found was either quoting from manufactures sales pitch or trying to compare apples to oranges in terms of saying one is better than the other on edge support. Please help.
Hi Ray.starr2016.
Welcome to our Mattress Forum.
Are there any mattresses you feel are good contenders that you need help comparing in terms of edge control? Definitely do pay attention to the gut feeling you’re getting from sale pitches. They ultimately don’t have your client’s well being in mind (at least not as much as their bottom line).
There are beds that have great edge support in terms of reinforced edge support via zoned coils and through the way they construct the mattress cover, while others may have only one or the other.
Are you looking at any that include the Caliber Edge coils?

Well actually I have no specific bed in mind. I keep getting lost in the sales pitches. Dream Cloud was in every search, but I didn’t feel like there was a distinctive edge support verses just a supportive mattress. I will do some searching on the coils you mentioned now. But I would say a mattress having both of the supporting features would be Ideal.
Ok I think I found some candidates. Yankee mattress factory the York or Nantucket or the Fairhaven look like they might take care of all the requirements. Any Opinions?
Hi again!
It looks like all three use the 8" Quantum Edge Elite, Bolsa + 1″ Nano Coil system which offers excellent edge support. They appear to vary in firmness (plush, medium, firm). Based on his height and weight, and the fact that he is a side sleeper, he probably would get the best support from a medium feel - however, this very much comes down to preference, as well. So, I’m just guessing based on what I know to be true for the majority of people.

Well this may have been a bad choice, when looking at the ordering process I found that nowhere in there site does it mention shipping mattresses farther than 60miles from there factory. There factory is halfway across the country from me. I sent an email asking about shipping out of state, looking through there website I’m not hopeful. So any suggestions on a shippable mattress with these same features as the Yankee Black York mattress? Thanks again you have been supper helpful in pointing me in the right directions on features.
