Ikea Malm + Storage Box + Sleep Master Platform + DreamFoam UD Latex

Hopefully this is the correct place to seek some guidance on a bed/storage/platform/mattress combination!

I’m trying to put together a great bang for buck set that includes storage and excellent sleep. I’m currently wondering if anyone has experience with the configuration in the subject of this. Here are the required links to the products I’m referring to:

Current total: ~$950, not including shipping/tax.

My main concern is, will the storage boxes seamlessly slide under the bed frame + platform? If so, I think this would be an incredible value.

Thanks in advance!

Hi nxsteven,

I don’t have any personal experience with any of these but I’m wondering why you are thinking about using both the Malm bed and the Sleep master platform together since this would give you two bedframes.

If you are thinking about using only the side rails and the headboard/footboard of the Malm (without the center beam or the angled braces) and putting the Sleep master inside then I’m not sure how stable it would be but at the very least I would make sure you measure or find out the inside dimensions of the Malm and the outside dimensions of the Sleep master to make sure that the Sleep Master will fit inside it (without the interior components of the Malm).

The Sleep master would be suitable by itself for your mattress.

I have my doubts whether the Malm underbed storage boxes would fit under the Sleep master because it’s only 80" long and some of this length under the bedframe would be taken up by the width of the legs and the storage boxes are 40 1/8 inches wide. If the storage boxes are important to you then you may be better off using just the Malm bedframe with one of their slatted bed bases.

Thanks for the response, Phoenix.

This Amazon reviewer inspired me to attempt the configuration stated within this thread. I already purchased the Malm but it is not yet assembled. The storage boxes create the necessary storage in a small room.

To answer your question: The Sleep Master Platform is to take the place of slats or a platform that appear to come in, at the lowest, $160. I’ve found a few bunkie boards on this site that come in around $65 but I’m concerned about the breath-ability of the mattress, as well.

With that new bit of information, any other thoughts? Thanks!

Also: To your suggestion, Ikea’s bed slats are currently unavailable through both an online purchase and at both of the local stores in my area.

Hi nxsteven,

The Ikea Sultan Lade slats would provide suitable support for the mattress, are a lower cost, and would be fine in terms of ventilation as well.

Using the slats that are designed for the bedframe would also allow you to use the storage boxes underneath the bedframe because I suspect they won’t fit under the Sleep Master platform/bedframe.

Any input on how it feels?
