Ikea slats for DreamFoam Ultimate Dreams

So I just bought the DreamFoam Ultimate Dreams (Amazon.com) in a King. I read a ton of threads on here and checked out comparable mattresses locally, I am very excited about this purchase.

I bought this bed from Ikea:

I bought these slats:

I read in an earlier post that for foam mattresses you want rigid slats that are less than 3 inches apart. I measured these and they were around 2.6 inches apart. The lady at Ikea said they suggest the $200 slats (as opposed to the $80 ones) for a foam mattress, but the cheaper ones would work.

Are these slats going to be compatible with the mattress? Should I swap them for the more expensive ones? I thought about getting the box frame without springs, but did not need the additional height.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi vinnie,

The 3" guideline is for a mattress that uses latex in the bottom layer to prevent the latex (which is more flexible and elastic than polyfoam) from sinking into the gaps over time.

A mattress such as yours that has polyfoam as the base layer would do fine with gaps that are even wider (as long as it met the warranty requirements of the manufacturer).

Either way … the lower cost slats will be fine. The higher cost slat foundation has the ability to adjust the tension of the slats in certain areas but this is generally more effective on thinner mattresses as a method of “fine tuning” the feel and performance of the mattress and not something that would normally be necessary.
