I’m looking to build an all natural latex mattress to suit the differences between body size/sleep position preferences,
Wife - 5’ 1", 110 lbs, prefers side/back sleeping positions
Myself - 5’ 11", 165 lbs, prefers stomach sleeping (with some side)
I’ve narrowed my option to the following (split comfort layer king):
3 in talalay – LEFT super soft N-1 #15-19 ILD / RIGHT medium N-3 #25-29 ILD
3 in dunlop med - 30 ILD
3 in dunlop firm - 44 ILD
Would the difference in firmness between the N-1 talalay and 30 ILD dunlop be a problem where my wife would feel through the comfort layer? Would it maybe be better to do 2 in N-1 talalay + 1 in N2 20-24 ILD talalay before the firmer dunlop?
I’d love to try this out in person but I don’t think I am able to do so at the moment and am going off of the request for wanting a plush feeling mattress. If anyone has gotten the super soft N-1 from Arizona Premium Mattress, could use some feedback to know how soft it really is.

Given the 3" thickness of the upper talalay layer and your wife’s petite size, she should not be able to feel the 3" dunlop latex beneath the talalay comfort layer.

You could consult with the mattress manufacturer regarding this layering but my thoughts are that with a 2"/ 1"/ 3"/ 3" layering vs. a 3"/ 3"/ 3" layering, you may experience more layer “shifting” inside the zippered cover with no additional comfort benefits of that configuration.

I don’t have personal experience with N-1 Talalay latex but have you checked with Arizona Premium to see if Talalay samples are available for purchase? Good luck with your DIY project and looking forward to hearing which layering way you decide to go .
I’ll contact Arizona Premium Mattress and see if they have samples (I didn’t see any on the website to even think of that). Good point about shifting regarding the 2"/ 1"/ 3"/ 3" layering as well … I’ll stick to the 3"/3"/3" setup but once I get a feel for how soft N-1 or N-2 are, go with either one of those on top of the dunlop.
Just following on this thread … Arizona Premium Mattress didn’t have samples of the N-1 but I mentioned my concern, and they noted that 130lbs would be their max weight for the N-1. I ended up placing the order … will report back in a couple weeks when it arrives and the bed is put together.
How did it go? I’ve tried medium Talalay as a comfort layer many years ago and it was just a little too firm for me and I weigh much more than you. But we all experience comfort and support in different ways. I hope everything worked out well.
