Seven yrs ago I found the Mattress Underground and it was so enlightening. We purchased a mattress and adjustable bed frame from a Trusted Member. Unfortunately, that company is no longer in business. We brought a mattress that was comparable to the Tempur-Pedic Cloud Luxe. It’s a great mattress and was extremely comfortable. However, it just too soft for my wife and I and we need something firmer. We now live in Florida and we are looking for a mattress that will keep us cool as well. The best mattress I ever slept on was on a Regent Cruise. It was an Italian made custom mattress. However, they retail for close to 5K, Yikes!!
Our issue is do we go with a firm mattress or a medium mattress? Open to any recommendations.

It is always very sad to hear about yet another mattress business going “under” and out of business.
It would be very hard to build a sleeping profile for any individual based just on knowing what mattresses worked or did not work form them. It would be more useful to know a bit more about your height, weight, and sleeping positions, and of course if you narrowed down to a few possible contenders.
As it’s been a few years, I’d recommend brushing up on our article that discusses sleeping positions and their associated support needs as well as reading through this article which touches on the role body weight and shape play in pressure relief and spinal alignment. I’d also recommend you take a look at this one which delves a little deeper into personal preference needs.
With regards to sleeping cool on a mattress… The layers that are closer to the top sleeping surface (comfort layers) will have the greatest impact upon comfort and sleeping temperature (including any mattress pad, sheets, and linen).
Please feel free to share which mattress(es) you may be considering and what your respective BMIs/sleeping positions are.to be able to make any meaningful comment on the product you may be considering.
Thanks, I’ll review those posts. Both my wife and I are 5’8 and 5’10. Both of us are side and back sleepers. We one the heavy side weight wise. Just curious if we should look for a medium or firm mattress.
I think you’ll find the above posts and articles useful in deciphering what firmness may be adequate for you.
While mattress testing is also generally a good way to help you make this decision, if you’re currently unable to do so in person, you will want to have a detailed phone conversation with a knowledgeable and experienced retailer or manufacturer that has your best interests at heart and who can help “talk you through” the specifics of their mattresses and the properties and “feel” of the materials they are using.
When choosing something online, it’s important to deal with experienced manufacturers/retailers to guide you through the process and find something that they honestly think will fit your specific sleeping positions, somatotype, BMI, and individual needs.
