Innerspring Mattresses and Radiation

I have been sleeping on a latex mattress that was unfortunately not customized to my specifications for three years that has given me not one good night’s sleep.

Now, as a heavier person, I am thinking I should buy an innerspring mattress with foam, latex and cotton in it. However, I don’t know if the radiation scare of sleeping on an innerspring mattress is accurate. Any guidance on this topic is much appreciated. I can answer any questions forum members may ask. Such great things were said about talalay latex but after these three years of sleeping on a 6 inch core of 30 ILD and two two inch layers on top and bottom of about 16.2 ILD, I think I may have to go a different route. The mattress company did not listen to me when I said I wanted a 22 ILD on the two inch top and bottom layers of the mattress.

Maybe I should try something such as the 6 inch base being an ILD of 34 and the top and bottom layers being an ILD of about 25 if the company should listen to my input being that I am a 5’8" male and weigh around 255 lbs. because it’s generally hard to make or choose a bed for someone of my stature in my opinion.

Sorry to hear that your latex mattress has not served you well. Not sure where you purchased it but I’d say based on your weight/BMI it’s much too soft and not supportive enough. Latex is arguably still the most durable mattress material particularly for us larger body types, so if you’re willing to give it another shot I think you need to select a firmer support base as well as a firmer comfort layer. Latex with an ILD of ~16 is very soft and not suited for use by someone of your size, a medium ILD would likely be a better match. I’d suggest following up with an experienced seller of latex mattresses like some of the TMU Trusted Sellers and they should be able to determine a latex build that would be a better match for you with proper support. The first two listed are Arizona Premium Mattress and Sleep EZ who are both very experienced at customizing latex mattress builds to meet individual customer needs and also both have dedicated forums in the Mattress Forum section of the site.

Hope that helps,
