I am thinking of getting a Sleep on Latex or an Earthfoam mattresses but was wondering if it would be a good fit for me or if I would need something thicker than 8.5 inches. I am a 64 year old woman that is 205 pounds and is 90+% side sleeper. I sometimes have shoulder pain. I was thinking of the medium but was wondering if it would bottom out for me. Maybe add a topper???
We have owned a high quality latex mattress for about 5 years.
We primarily sleep on our sides.
This is NOT the mattress for that kind of sleeping.
After the first year it began to get depressions and we began to get back and neck pains.
Our arms began going numb after about 5 months.
The thing cost $2k + foundation and frame.
We’ve been saving up for another mattress type.
Meanwhile, we purchased a 4" thick topper to keep us from pain which helped immensely.
It’s a hybrid foam type that doesn’t get hot or cold.
Anyway, I’ll never buy a latex mattress again!
We also owned a SleepNumber bed for a number of years.
It did pretty good, except when the sides began slumping after about 2 years.
The warranty didn’t cover the problem, so we ditched it (poor design).
It too cost around $2k + foundation and frame.
We’ll NEVER buy a SleepNumber bed EVER again!
Once burnt, twice shy.
We’re looking into a hybrid spring mattress and REFUSE to pay more than 600 bux.
We will keep our current frame and foundation b/c there’s nothing wrong w/them.
So the new top mattress much fit this foundation.
We’re also going to get another topper b/c we’re side-sleepers.
Hope this helps…
Hi cinmich.
I believe we connected in another thread; for the sake of forum organization it’s best to keep conversations about a single topic in a single thread. Otherwise, you may end up getting repeat information.
Much of this is based on preference and individual needs. Generally speaking, we recommend 3 - 4 inches in the comfort layer for a side sleeper. So, by default, a mattress on the thicker side (10"+) tends to be a better fit for a side sleeper. That’s not to say an 8.5" mattress can’t work, but a mattress for a bunk bed (for reference) is 8" and considered a thinner mattress.
