Thank you, Phoenix, and other forum members.
In February, I lurked and researched and read all kinds of information on this forum after feeling overwhelmed while visiting a generic furniture store in search of a mattress. I appreciated the recommendation to insist on “sussing out” the layers of a mattress in question, and to take the time to investigate local manufacturers.
For me (located in western NY), that meant considering Jamestown Mattress. Before researching on MU, it was barely on my radar, and an initial visit to the store might have turned me away (it lacks the bells and whistles of some of the other stores, and the prices are higher than the “bargain basement” stores in my area). It wasn’t the only place I shopped around at, but sales reps at other locations clearly had less knowledge than I did about mattress construction. As I started to ask basic questions about polyfoam density and was brushed aside, it became clear that Jamestown was the way to go. Their salesman really understands their products.
Initially, we ordered a Majestic Dream Eurotop Firm, but after three weeks on it, my boyfriend couldn’t handle the firmness because he was used to a waterbed (!). Jamestown worked with us to rebuild the mattress to a softer version and changed out the type of latex (Dunlop to Talalay) on the upper layer. I was skeptical about the rebuild process, but my Majestic Dream version 2.0 is marvelous.
Leading into this experience, I’d been suffering from excruciating back pain for three months (see above, “waterbed”). Within two days on the Majestic Dream, the back pain had resolved.
When initially I searched for “Jamestown Mattress” on this forum two months ago, not many results turned up. I am so satisfied with the company and pleased with the mattress, and hope this commentary would help those who might come along after me searching for a good mattress option in this “neck of the woods.”
This forum is a great resource. Many thanks!
