Hi AngelaP,

Welcome to the Mattress UnderGround and joining as a new MUGster. We are happy to have you join us.

The king koil ONH seems like a nice quality made mattress. I tried one a couple of years ago at Macys, it was just not firm enough for me. I was 250+ at the time(now 220) and stand 6’.

While I don’t have specific information about this particular mattress model ( and they dont provide it anywhere), I can offer some general advice.

It’s always a good idea to research customer reviews and independent customer ratings online to see what others have experienced with the mattress over time.

Additionally, consider checking if there’s a warranty or trial period offered by the manufacturer or retailer, which can provide some assurance about the durability and performance of the mattress.

Natural mattresses like these tend to require some targeted maintenance. General advice for maintenance is as follows.
Maintaining your mattress can help prolong its lifespan and ensure that you continue to get a good night’s sleep. Here are some general maintenance tips:

  1. Regularly Rotate or Flip: Depending on the type of mattress you have, rotating or flipping it every few months can help distribute wear more evenly and prevent sagging in specific areas.
  2. Use a Mattress Protector: A mattress protector can shield your mattress from spills, stains, dust mites, and allergens. It’s easier to clean or replace a protector than it is to clean a mattress.
  3. Vacuum Regularly: Use a handheld vacuum or the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner to remove dust, dirt, and debris from the surface and crevices of the mattress.
  4. Spot Clean Stains: If spills or stains occur, gently blot them with a mild detergent and water solution. Avoid saturating the mattress, as excess moisture can promote mold and mildew growth.
  5. Air It Out: Periodically remove bedding and allow your mattress to air out. This helps to dissipate any trapped odors and moisture.
  6. Check for Wear and Tear: Keep an eye out for signs of wear such as sagging, lumps, or indentations. Addressing these issues promptly can help prevent further damage to the mattress.
  7. Follow Manufacturer Guidelines: Refer to the care instructions provided by the manufacturer for specific recommendations tailored to your mattress type.

Specific to your mattress selection, this is the manufacturers guidelines (from their FAQ’s).

How often should I rotate my mattress?

First 3 months - Turn mattress every two weeks. After 3 months - Turn mattress every month.

Why and how should I rotate my mattress?

Mattresses need to be rotated to achieve their maximum usable life. You can extend your mattress comfort and the durability of your new sleep set by setting a regular schedule for care and maintenance.

Today’s mattresses employ thick layers of upholstery materials to provide comfort and the feeling of plushness. Over time (even a short time), these layers will compress to form to your body. This is quite natural, and a mattress should be rotated regularly to ensure proper, even wear.

For the first 90 days, your King Koil sleep set should be rotated every two weeks. After the initial 90 days, you will only need to rotate your mattress once a month.

First 3 Months – Turn mattress every two weeks.
After 3 Months – Turn mattress every month.

I can state unequivically, based on my personal experience, it’s essential to maintain natural mattresses, toppers, and pillows. They often appear to sag and develop depressions relatively quickly. However, in higher-quality mattresses made with natural fibers and foams, these are typically just simple body impressions that can be resolved by regular rotation. It’s crucial not to overlook this maintenance, as it greatly contributes to the comfort and lifespan of the mattress.

Among the most agressive complaints arise when customers mistake body impressions for signs of sagging and dipping in their mattresses. These misinterpreted body impressions, often perceived as structural defects, can lead to frustration and dissatisfaction among consumers. Body impressions are natural depressions that develop over time as a mattress adjusts to the shape of the sleeper’s body. New mattresses, while they are a normal occurrence and do not necessarily indicate structural damage or poor quality, misunderstanding them may lead to unwarranted complaints and discontent with the product. This is precisely why you need to understand and are clear about the characteristics of this type of mattress, so there are no misconceptions and you get expected longevity from a high quality mattress.

Hopefully this helps,

Maverick

Thank you so much for the info! Very helpful!
