Recently purchased a mattress from Sleepy’s, a Kingsdown Sleeping Beauty Ashleigh Plush. We were told Kingsdown used CertiPUR foam and that this particular mattress was the ‘cleanest’ one we’d find in the store. However, I can’t find any information on this specific mattress anywhere and wasn’t totally convinced. Also, how long does the initial off gassing of a mattress take? The smell is so strong we can’t bear to sleep on it…
Hi RachZ,
Kingsdown is listed on the CertiPur site here* which means that by most standards their foams would be considered to be “safe”. I’m not sure what they mean by “clean” because it doesn’t really have any meaning relative to mattress materials.

It normally takes somewhere from a few days to a few weeks for the smell of a new mattress to dissipate but it also depends on the type of materials that are inside it.
While they are CertiPur certified so you have some assurance that they are “safe” … Kingsdown doesn’t provide much if any information about the quality of the materials inside them so unfortunately in most cases you would be making a “blind” purchase based more on marketing information than meaningful information when you purchase one of their mattresses (see the guidelines here and this article about the major manufacturers).
