Latex component mattresses

Some manufacturers offer two layers of foam which are then assembled at home in a zippered bag. Since the layers are not laminated, does this cause shifting/sliding/bunching/etc when used on an adjustable base?

Hi frank1,

Generally no because latex is quite “sticky” but it depends on the quality and fit of the cover as well. If it does shift because of handling or movement over time … then it’s an easy process to unzip the cover and “wave” the top layer back into position.

The cover of a latex mattress is very important because latex is subject to oxidation from ozone and ultraviolet and if you use a cheap thin cover then you may significantly lessen the life of a latex mattress.

Having unglued layers with a zip cover also provides the flexibility to exchange or replace layers when necessary.
