Latex Decompression Time?

Hello,

How long does it take for Latex to decompress from a air sealed tight vacuum package?

Will the Latex still decompress and recover correctly if I decide to sleep on it before the time needed for the Latex to decompress?

The instructions on the package from IKEA says it takes 72 hours but I’m guessing that’s just a general label used for a air sealed tight foam mattresses, in my case it’s an IKEA 85% Natural Latex topper and still consists of 15% Synthetic Latex which made from foam.

I have very little room to spare and do not have a proper flat place for the Latex topper to decompress, I only have the top of my mattress in which I can let it decompress for about 16 hours tops before I’m going to use it.

Hi Nemix,

It will decompress most of the way very quickly (generally in seconds) although it may continue to decompress very slightly over the course of a day or two.

Yes … it will be fine to sleep on after a couple of hours (giving it a little time to air out if it needs to) or even less.

I bought a latex mattress from Chuck @ dreamfoambedding.com. It started to decompress slow, until I sliced the bag open… pow… within seconds a full size mattress. I let it sit in the living room for the day as I was cleaning my bedroom. At night I moved it in and am happy. There was no smell at all in my mattress.

Thanks for reply man,

I will probably open up the IKEA Latex topper package this weekend and perhaps spend one to two nights over at my sisters place to give the Latex more time to decompress, after all none of IKEA’s Latex mattresses or toppers are 100% Latex and it maybe good give Synthetic Latex portion (which is foam) more time to recover.

Hi Nemix,

Synthetic latex and 100% natural latex are both “foam” materials except unlike memory foam and polyfoam (which are also foam materials) they are made from rubber. It’s just that one is made from synthetic rubber and the other from natural rubber. They will both decompress very quickly (normally in just a few seconds).

I unpacked the IKEA Latex topper this morning, it’s been 3 hours and it looks completely uncompressed but I’m going to play it safe and let it rest for another 9 hours before sleeping on it tonight.
