Latex inquiry

Hello, I have been converted from going with the hr poly foam to a dunlop latex base and blended talalay top. As I am not familiar with this product, and I know it wouldn’t be an exact comparison, how would a 3" medium 38 ild blended talalay compare to a 36 ild hr poly foam of the same thickness? Or should I go one down with the blended talalay to 32 ild? I’d like it firm but with enough give I could side sleep. And how firm would the 44 ild be in 3" would it have some give or be like the floor? Thanks.

Hi alpharalpha,

Polyfoam and latex are totally different materials and can’t easily be compared to each other, as their cell structure is different, they compress at different rates and they rebound differently. The latex is more buoyant, more point elastic, and the only way you’d be able to tell the difference would be to test these materials side by side. There are also large variations in how polyfoam will feel depending upon the formulation. A 38 ILD latex is considered to be on the firmer end of the spectrum, and the 44 ILD is considered to be extra firm. How that you would feel to you sleeping upon your side could only be determined by you doing some actual testing.

I’ve read around 32 ild blended talalay in a 3" topper would probably be comfortable for my weight/build.
