Hi,
I’m about to buy a Nature’s embrace latex mattress. I hesitate between two layers glued together or 4 layers without glue. I’m afraid the 4 layers will not stay together. Is the glue between layers a must?

This is really a matter of preference. Latex has a higher coefficient of friction, and is a bit “grippy” and the layers tend to stay in place quite well, combined with the zippered encasement keeping everything in place. Depending upon the use, you may infrequently need to slightly reposition the layers. Having separate layers does allow you the option to flip layers to extend comfort life, rearrange layers to manipulate comfort, and also replace certain layers to extend sleep set life. Component-configurable systems like this have been around for quite some time. On the other side of the equation, there’s nothing wrong if you prefer to have all of your layers secured via glue. This would still be a durable product, but the system would obviously not be customizable, unless a topper was added to the product.
Thank you for this explanation, it helps. About the base layer, if I get unglued layers, how thick should it be? is 2 inch enough? or thicker is better for the base layer? (I need a firm base)
Thanks again

The thickness/hardness of the layers would be looked at as part of the completed design. If a mattress was using multiple 2" layers, then two higher density / higher ILD layers would for all practical purposes equate to a single thicker layer of similar density/hardness. I’d suggest consulting with the manufacturer for their recommendation as to what combinations they’ve found with their specific product line that produces something with a harder base layer but still would meet your specific needs. They’ll have more experience than anyone in that respect.
I have a four layer latex mattress from Flexus. None of the layers move around at all and I am a toss and turner. When you put the layers in, you will see how tight it is getting the layers into the encasement, that any layers moving around would be highly unlikely.
