Phoenix, I want to thank you for your clear explanations! We have been searching for a latex mattress for weeks now and this site has been exceptionally helpful. A showroom near us recently began carrying SavvyRest, so we went to test the comfort. My husband and I each found a configuration we liked in the 4 possibilities available at the showroom. Now we just need to call Sleep EZ to figure out how this will compare to their available options.
What I want to share, though, is that the listing on the top of the latex mattresses did not match what was actually on the inside of the mattress for 2 of the 4 options. We unzipped the cover just to be nosey, but then discovered that the innards were totally different (both in firmness and Talalay vs Dunlop). I’m so glad that we found this out so that we can find a suitable option at Sleep EZ instead of being sorely disappointed.
Me: 140, 5’5, S, talalay (top), M dunlop (middle), F dunlop (bottom)
Partner: 220, 6’1, S dunlop (top), S talalay (middle), F talalay (bottom)
I still think my husband’s option is a bit odd as the mattress calculator options kept showing he would prefer a medium/firm mattress, not what is effectively a marshmallow. Alas, I’m glad we were able to try something so he could find his best option.
I’m glad you realized this as well so that you could use the correct layering as a reference point. I think that some of the Savvy Rest dealers are probably better and more conscientious than others.
I would agree that this is somewhat “odd” as well and two soft layers on top could be somewhat risky in his weight range in terms of PPP. It would also be unusual to have a Dunlop layer on top of a soft Talalay layer as well. I would make sure that you discuss this with SleepEZ before you make your purchase.
Has Saavy Rest become the testing store prior to ordering a SleepEZ mattress? I recall several folks ordering a SleepEZ based on their testing at a Saavy Rest store.
Perhaps a Thank You card to Saavy Rest from SleepEZ is in order.
The Savvy Rest designs are very similar to some of the SleepEZ designs as well as several other components mattresses made by other companies with multiple 3" layers and a choice between 100% natural Talalay and 100% natural Dunlop (although Savvy Rest don’t mention the ILD of their layers, their Dunlop is certified organic, and there are some differences in the cover so they aren’t exactly the same as SleepEZ). SleepEZ was selling their component latex mattress online long before Savvy Rest started their company so there have always been many people that use Savvy Rest as a reference point but don’t end up purchasing the Savvy Rest because of the significant difference in their prices.
I suppose that Savvy Rest could also send a thank you card to some of the other manufacturers that were selling component latex mattresses and helped make them popular long before Savvy Rest began their business
PapaMike, we considered purchasing the SavvyRest as there was a 20% Black Friday sale and we wanted to support a local mattress shop. Alas, the sales staff knew little about latex mattresses despite their report that they sell them frequently. Their knowledge about the warranty was completely incorrect. Seeing that the individual who set up the mattresses did so incorrectly (he kept saying that he followed the instructions and it clearly must be what’s on the paper) rather sealed the deal. Were there a bit of humility, we may have made a different choice.
Phoenix, thank you for your response. I spoke to Sean at SleepEz who essentially said “if it was comfortable, then it’s fine”. He said that it will not effect the longevity or durability of the product and he should still receive support. We placed our order, so we shall see whether my husband disappears into a pile of latex marshmallow. I’ll update after we’ve spent some time with it. Thanks again.
You certainly made a great quality/value purchase and I’m looking forward to your comments and feedback once you’ve received it and have had the chance to sleep on it for a bit. I’m especially looking forward to finding out how your husband likes his somewhat unusual combination but of course each person is unique and with a component latex mattress you can always rearrange or exchange layers if his actual sleeping experience doesn’t work out as well as his testing indicated it would.
