Latex Topper questions

Hi, this is my first post so let me know if I’m in the wrong place.

I have fairly new bed. less then 1 year old. My wife and I like the bed but both feel like we need more pressure relief while laying on our sides. I have circulation problems that cause me to loose feeling in my arms and my wife needs more relief for her hips all without loosing support.

I’m 225lbs 6" broud shouldered
she is 160lbs 5’-8"

I have done a ton of research on this forum and its is amazing. Right now I am looking at purchasing a Arizona Premium Mattress topper. I am looking at 3" blended or 3" Talalay. They are very expensive toppers (not compared to other brand but in general) and I am concerned with purchasing something that I cannot return. So I have a few questions:

  1. do you think 3" Talalay is better then Blended
  2. should I even consider Dunlop?
  3. Do you think that in the ILD of 19 is appropriate or I should go softer?
  4. thoughts on return policy?
  5. what other brands are popular. I have looked at Sleepez and they for sure cost more.

Making a $500 purchase without being able to test or return has me on edge.
Thank you.
Dave

Hi dbosco002.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum.

You’re in the right place, no worries!

Thanks for sharing a little more about you and your wife’s sleeping stats. You mentioned you have a fairly new bed. Can I Inquire as to the brand/model?

Thanks for saying so We are always pleased to hear when our consumers have found the resources to help them make an informed decision!

As for the topper…Arizona Premium Mattress is superb and Ken Hightower, the owner, is extremely knowledgable. If you reach out directly with your questions he will happily answer them and will not try to “upsell” you or sell you a product that isn’t a good fit. This is true of all our Trusted Members.

Blended latex is a combination of synthetic and natural latex, and while durable, it is less elastic than all natural latex.

The difference between Dunlop and Talalay has been described in the forum as the difference between pound cake (Dunlop) and angel food cake (Talalay). Talalay latex is the most popular as a comfort layer because it can be made softer than Dunlop and is more consistent in its softness across the entire surface of the mattress. Dunlop however is also used in the comfort layers because of its firmer and less “lively” nature which is attractive to some who prefer its feel. Dunlop is often used as a support or transition layer, as well.

That is a very soft latex! This would be a great question to ask Ken, or whichever manufacturer you choose to buy from (being sure to share your sleeping stats and concerns with them, the way you did here).

AZ Premium’s policy is that individually purchased latex toppers, pillows and cores are not returnable. That said, a firmness exchange is allowed for toppers and cores only and you will only pay for the shipping charges to do so - but keep in mind this needs to be done within 60 days of purchase.

DIY Natural Bedding does custom cuts of latex.
Luma has a great product too, but it is a little more expensive.
Nest Bedding also has a soft latex topper.

Again, I’d have a chat with whomever you choose to buy from so they can help guide you in terms of thickness and ILD.

I hope this helps, and do keep us in the loop!
