Latex — tried it, liked it, now what?!

Sorry for the seemingly endless questions, but after considering trying out a latex topper I found an Original Mattress Factory store near me and tested out both their 2-sided latex and latex hybrid. I loved the feel — no pressure points at all. Both have a 1” 14 ILD talalay layer over a 2” 24 ILD talalay layer.

My biggest hesitations about going with OMF is that they use foam underneath the latex (4-1/2” of 2.5 lb/cubic foot on the latex, and 2” “high density Supersoft foam” in the hybrid), and the fact that the mattress layers aren’t customizable, either upon purchase or down the road if our comfort needs change.

So now I’m back to looking at latex. Definitely want a soft talalay on top, definitely something that can have different layers on each side for a king mattress, and definitely something where layers can be readily moved around or exchanged. Really couldn’t discern any difference between OMF’s latex and latex hybrid though, so not sure whether to go all latex or something with coils. And definitely don’t want a mattress with polyfoam added to the layers!

Me — 65yo F, 145 lbs, 5’6” side sleeper; spouse 64yo M, 165 lbs, 5’9” side/back sleeper. My biggest issue is pressure on hips and shoulders; spouse has history of lower back pain and shoulder pain.

Thanks again!

Hey Kardut.

Don’t apologize!

Yay!

If this is important to you, then it makes sense to look for something that allows for side by side customization and layer swapping.

This depends on how much bounce you want from your bed; if you don’t care about the traditional bounce from innerpsrings, all foam is great. Some people choose hybrid simply for the airflow under the layers (a particular concern for warm/hot sleepers).

@Sleep_EZ would likely be a good contender for you; especially their configuration tool.

I also really liked their two sided latex mattress.

Thank you, @NikkiTMU. I’ve actually been looking at the @Sleep_EZ, @Sleeping_Organic and just emailed @SDMattressMakers for more information on the Soledad and Coronado, since those are the two I keep coming back to. Hopefully will be able to pull the trigger this weekend!
