I have orderred a 12" King Latex Bed but did not order the foundation. I have a 4 poster bed with a a few slats holding up the rigid wire foundation and a center support. Could I not just purchase or make a set of bunkie board slats with the suggested spacing and stretch across the existing foundation. That way my height would be set, It would breath and I could get out cheap. What would be the potential pitfalls of this? Have people done it before?
Hi srockrae,
Your 4 poster bed should have 5 wooden cross slats with a center rail and good center support to the floor (in a king size preferably with two legs) to provide suitable support for a foundation.
I’m not quite sure which type of foundation you have but if it’s one of the wire grid type like this you can see my thoughts about them with an all latex mattress in post #10 here.
You could add slats on top the way you are suggesting with a suitable spacing if the top surface of your foundation is flat and evenly supportive (with a contact point on each side and in the middle) so they don’t tilt or bend and you have a way to secure them to the foundation to keep them from shifting. A bed rug would probably also work well.

I considered the bed rug atop a 1/2" piece of plywood. I have read a good deal about the rubberized coir bed rugs but it seems expensive. For a cheaper solution, would using a few layers of carpet felt or breathable carpet padding on top of plywood work?
Hi srockrae,
It probably wouldn’t be as breathable, as thick, or as durable as the coir so I doubt it would work as well but I really don’t know for sure.

I did for my self bought 16 studs 2 inch space for queen latex mattress and its perfect cost me 70$ everything, plywood it’s not breathable and its treated with chemicals.
If the goal is to prevent the latex from unevenly forming into the wire frame foundation and at the same time achieving some breathability, then what about just placing a panel of Viny Diamond Lattice atop the existing foundation. The grid opening is 2-7/8 in. They come in 4x8 sheet panels and I could custom cut to fit the exact dimension of the foundation.
Hi srockrae,
I’m not familiar with it but it looks like it could work to me and would probably be worth trying since it’s certainly inexpensive.
Thanks for sharing the idea and if you do decide to try it I’d be interested in hearing how it works.

Worked Great
Hi srockrae,
Thanks for the update … and I’ve added it to the suggestions for improving the support surface for wire grid foundations/bedframes in post #10 here :).
