I’ve been stuck for months trying to find a mattress that is:
soft, i.e. 4-5/10 firmness (I’m a very thin, 130lbs and 18 BMI, side sleeper)
as non-toxic, non-off-gassing as possible (i.e. maximum certifications: CertiPUR, GOLS/GOTS, Greenguard, etc)
roughly $1000 for a twin
My preference -would- have been latex, but it seems there is no such thing as a soft latex or organic mattress. (I’m currently returning a medium Spindle mattress because it quickly and consistently gives me shoulder pain, even with a 3-inch foam topper.)
So now I’m looking for a soft, chemically trustworthy mattress. Whatever the closest thing to an organic option would be, that’s still soft. The more certifications it has – CertiPUR, Greenguard, GOLS/GOTS – the better.
Would anyone happen to know a few mattresses that meet these criteria?
I am sorry to hear your Spindle mattress is too firm!
The SleepEZ Select Sleep Organic Latex Mattress may fit your parameters. It is customizable with the “build your mattress” button and allows you to select a soft talalay comfort layer. If you choose the 3 layer configuration, the breakdown is as follows…
Cover:
100% Organic Cotton Knit Cover Quilted to 1" Eco-Wool
Latex Layers (Top Down):
2" Single 100% Natural Talalay Layer
3" Single GOLs Certified Dunlop Layer
3" Single GOLs Certified Dunlop Layer
There is also the All Natural Talalay Ultra Plush mattress from Arizona Premium which is Oeko Tex Standard 100 certified. There is also the plush, certified organic Hybrid Latex from Nest, but the price is about double your budget (for full transparency). This price is because it holds the Greenguard Gold certification, contains GOLS certified organic latex, GOTS certified organic cotton, and GOTS certified organic wool. There are no polyurethane foams, synthetic material, or toxic fire retardants used.
Nest also carries the Natural Hybrid Latex in plush option well within your budget, with the following certifications:
CertiPUR-US® certified and made in the USA.Their latex is 100% natural OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 latex and is made in the USA. All foams and latex are allowed time to air out in their factory, which decreases any residual off-gassing.The fire barrier is non-chemical hydrogenated silica.
I hope this helps point you in a direction towards your perfect fit. Please let me know if you have more questions arise!
