Looking for alternative to Aireloom Amargosa/Streamline Luxury Firm

Hey there!
First, thanks for all the resources and guidance so far. It’s been super helpful in our search for our 3rd mattress in 6mo. Oof.
Backstory: We’ve had a Leesa Original since 2016. It was our first bed in a box. We loved it, even being different types of sleepers. Fast forward to 2024, we had to live in a rental temporarily and were sleeping on a Helix there. Back pain began. When we moved home, we decided to buy a new Leesa Original. We didn’t know Leesa had been bought and the mattress might not be the same. It felt like sleeping on concrete. Returned it and tried the Leesa Legend Hybrid which is what we’re on now. Back pain continues. I’m doing better with a thicker/taller pillow and sleeping in the middle of the mattress but this sort of defeats the purpose of having a big bed so I can sleep away from any disturbance lol
About us: I’m 5’9, 185lbs. Side sleeper mostly but also sleep on my stomach and my back sometimes. I sleep on the edge of the mattress as far away from other people’s body heat as possible. Very light sleeper. My husband is 5’9, 240lbs, prefers stomach sleeping but also sleeps on his side, and sometimes his back too. We have a King size bed. We have not been particularly picky about mattresses in the past… maybe we’re getting old or that Helix really did a number on us. We have a new Thuma bed frame.
Today: Read through all TMU, went to try some different constructs of mattresses at a local store. Of course they put us on the most expensive mattress first, the Aireloom Amargosa Luxury Firm (I believe this is the Streamline Luxury Firm based on a preview TMU thread?). We actually really liked it.
We also tried a Tempurpedic, didn’t really like the memory foam feel. Nectar, felt more like our old Leesa. S&F and Sealy eh fine it’s a mattress nothing special.
Things we liked about the Aireloom: We both couldn’t really imagine it not being comfortable. It felt supportive but also comfortable in all the right ways. I swear I could feel my back muscles relaxing for the first time in a while. We think this is mainly because of the (special? mystery?) latex over coils and the wool/silk top.
Things we weren’t totally sold on: Motion isolation on this mattress isn’t as good as any of the Leesa’s we’ve had. Motion transfer really bothers me. I can’t feel anything on the Leesa. I’m also concerned about the perimeter of edge support, being an edge sleeper. I don’t want to have to sleep in the middle of the mattress to be comfortable. And of course, lack of transparency on materials and durability. We can afford this mattress, but if we’re going to have to buy a new mattress in 5 years, we’d rather buy something kinda similar that’s cheaper to replace.
We really value being able to try a mattress for a while and have a good return policy. It’s almost the most important feature for us really. It’s so hard to get a feel for a mattress lying on it for 10 minutes in a store being talked at by a salesperson.
Next: Where do we look next? What mattresses have similar construction with good trial periods and customer service and address some of the not-so-perfect aspects? Or is it, as the salesperson told us, unmatched in the industry lol

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey Drumma!

Welcome to our Mattress Forum

it sounds like you both had a great in-store testing experience! While the Aireloom Amargosa is probably not unmatched in the industry, it’s really hard to know exactly what compares since they don’t provide a full breakdown of their specs.

From what we can gather, it looks like the comfort system includes both latex and visco-elastic (memory) foam, which some other manufacturers use as well but without side-by-side testing or clearer transparency, it’s impossible to know how the feel or performance truly stacks up.

We always recommend buying what feels best to you as this is the most important data point by far, especially if you’ve found something that gave you noticeable relief and spinal support.

If you’re looking for something with a somewhat similar build and possibly better transparency, two options that come to mind are:

Well if it was that simple we would buy it lol but it didnt check all our boxes. We still had things we didnt like about it like the motion transfer and the wide edge perimeter are concerns. We’ll check out DLX and Nest! Thanks!
