Looking for Topper - Any experience with Tempurpedic Supreme Topper?

Some background:
After a terrible experience with all memory foam mattresses, we built our own mattress - an Ikea Mausund Latex mattress and a Ikea topper. The mattress is great, too firm but super durable. Perfect base. However, the topper is waaay too firm. I can only guess density, but feels like a 4 pounds per sq? We just tried a Room and Board topper and it was terrible. After some research on this site, I found it had a 2.5 per sq ft, explaining why it has no support whatsoever.

I think we need something in the 3ish range, but have had so many bad experiences with the crappy Wayfair/Target options, so now looking at the Tempurpedic. Any feedback?

I would try the site recommended Next Topper but my wife cannot wait that long

Thanks!

Joe.

Hi Joew5555.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum.

While I can’t speak from experience, the topper is well within our recommended durability guidelines for memory foam. So that is a plus side.

I did find this forum post that discusses at length their Supreme topper experience, and this post briefly touches on it as well.

Hoping this helps.

NikkiTMU,

Thanks for the quick response!

I am a back sleeper and sleep hot and my wife is a side sleeper, so I prefer a firmer topper (so I don’t sink and get back pain) and my wife prefers the plush memory foam. Ick.

Are there plusher latex toppers? Or firmer memory foam?

I know you don’t recommend brands but any general advice is appreciated.

Thanks!!

Hi joew5555.

We are always happy to make adequate recommendations from our Trusted Member directory where appropriate. In this case, you may be interested in the latex toppers from Naturally Nestled. Soft talalay can be very plush! Arizona Premium carries a range of firmness in latex toppers, as well.

Ghostbed carries a memory foam topper, but I’m unsure of the firmness. You’d want to reach out to them to find out for sure.

Are you on a king mattress? If so, you could get split toppers (basically two twin toppers) to meet your different support needs.

I think there’s some confusion in this thread about foam density (which tells you about the quality/durability) and Indentation Load Deflection or ILD (soft vs firm). Now memory foam is even harder to quantify than other materials like polyfoam and latex because it changes characteristics with temperature.

Yes same situation here with me and my wife  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topper

My search continues. I tried a latex topper, but between a firm latex mattress and a latex topper we are pretty sore. Feeling of laying on bed rather than some cushion.

Now back to memory foam. Does anyone have a recommendation on a topper with support around 4?

Thanks all!

It sounds like the mattress and topper are likely both dunlop (rather than talalay which is better for comfort layers) but if you are set on memory foam I would contact MFC, very knowledgeable folks.
