Hello everyone and thank you for your time. For the last 6 years my wife and I have slept on a Memory Foam mattress and now it is sagging something horrible. I am a big fella at 5’ 11" 240 pounds and my lovely wife is smaller at 170 pounds.
I have been researching day and night for the last three weeks and have come to the conclusion that Latex may be our best option. What type of latex? I have no idea truthfully, that’s why I am here. My budget is quite small at the top is a mere $1000. We are in the market for a Queen size also. I could possibly go a little over but the little lady wouldn’t like it LOL.
I found this mattress but have no idea if it’s enough for my large butt or not.

I need some guidance. I came here once before for my brother and someone helped me pick and Ultimate Dream (?) Mattress for my brother and he loves it. I’m not wanting Memory Foam or I would look at that.

Having a slightly higher BMI can present special challenges and generally requires firmer materials (in the support layers especially). This could be firmer latex or innersprings (the type of support component would be a personal preference and in the right design either could be suitable) or even a zoned construction. The same overall guidelines apply with higher weights though that PPP (Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and Personal preferences) along with using high quality durable materials that will maintain their feel and performance for longer periods of time are the way to make the best choices. Heavier people in general will need firmer and thicker comfort layers and firmer support layers than those who are lighter and because no materials will last as long with much higher weights the quality and durability of the materials and components is even more important than normal. I wouldn’t “rule out” any types of mattress and base your choices on your own personal testing. Post #3 here has more information and suggestions about heavier weights that is worth reading.
In the large majority of cases … 8" - 9" of latex is easily enough to include the combination softer layers (or sometimes sections) for pressure relief and firmer layers for support that most people of average or even higher weights would need. In some cases … lighter weights or people that sleep in “flatter” sleeping positions, have slimmer less curvy body types, or who prefer a firmer mattress will do well with even 6" even though there is less “room” to design in different layers in the mattress. People that have much higher body weights or larger body types may choose more than the “average” thickness and may prefer the feel and extra adaptability of say 12" of latex. Thicker mattresses can also use firmer materials because thickness and softness are very related and work together.
These are all good questions to ask Sleep on Latex directly in a phone call so they can discuss the differences between the 7" and 9" options they have available in the different plushness levels and which models they might recommend as best for your specific application. As you may be aware, Sleep on Latex is a member here of the site and I do think highly of their products and the advice they provide.
While I wasn’t a part of your phone conversation with Sleep on Latex (SOL), I do trust the advice that they provide and their product knowledge, and out of their options there is no reason that the 9" medium model couldn’t work for you, and in their line up, being their thicker model, it would offer more material to work for people with higher BMIs. SOL will know best which of their items they think will offer you the best chance for success, as they will be the most familiar with their materials and how they work with the averages of their clients and different sleeping styles, body types and BMIs. I certainly would give strong consideration to their advice.
