Luma All-Latex Slumber System

Hi
since memory foam doesn’t seem to be working for me due to most companies are not using more then 1.8 lb base foam(being i am slightly heavier then 215 lbs) and i haven’t had a bed yet i was sleeping well with using that in spite of different foams and configs (common link is always 1.8 lb base foam) there are companies that use higher base foams but they don’t except returns or you have to figure out how to get it back to them etc. I think hubby is going to crack from the pressure as it is LOL

i am probably going to try Luma All-Latex Slumber System in the medium firm (Luma is blended latex)
3"- 28 ILD Interchangeable Talalay Latex
8" Talalay and Dunlop Latex
i can get a different config if but I think firmer will be too hard on my lower back . shoulders, pressure points etc.
Thoughts . opinions are welcome !
does anyone have this bed and if so do you like it?

Hi Ari,

Unless you have quite a bit of experience in the foam fabrication/mattress construction industry (which would be very, very few people), I’ll always caution people that there are many factors that interact that may be contributing to their discomfort on a mattress. For example, in your situation a polyfoam base using a firm 1.8 lb polyfoam would still work for someone over 200 lbs (although in higher BMIs I prefer 2 lb or above), and in a short-term trial this base foam wouldn’t fail. It certainly may be that you don’t prefer the feel of a mattress using a polyfoam core. It could also be that you don’t prefer memory foam (the layers closest to your skin have the greatest impact upon your comfort), regardless of the type of support core used. The foundation being used can also contribute to feel. This is just a reminder to people reading through this thread that there are many things to look at when assessing your comfort upon a mattress. And while you may have run into some difficulty finding companies that meet your needs, there are offerings available, some who are members of this site, using higher density base foam who do allow for returns and do not require you to send the product back. It’s actually becoming more common for many of the simplified choice mattress companies to arrange for a product donation as opposed to sending the mattress back.

The Luma Sleep all latex mattress uses a 6" blended Dunlop core that is 32 ILD and on top of that is a 2" piece of 28 ILD blended Talalay latex. The 3" topper can be had in 19, 28, or 36 ILD blended Talalay (you’re considering the 28 ILD).

Before making any purchase decision, I strongly recommend that you phone Luma Sleep directly and have a detailed phone conversation of what you’re attempting to achieve, along with the previous mattresses you’ve tried and what you did and didn’t like about them. You can also relate at that time your sleeping posture, somatotype, BMI and any other relevant information, and I would rely upon their guidance to either confirm your choice or perhaps consider any alternatives they may suggest. You can also at that time become completely familiar with their return/exchange options. As you’re probably aware, Luma Sleep is a site member here, and I do think highly of the materials they use and the advice they provide.

I like memory foam, it doesn’t like me. Prior to beds getting complicated I always loved a pillowtop over a tight top because I like a little cozy hug.
I have tried memory foam again and again and in different brands in different firmness they don’t work out, too soft or hard as a rock.

I have spoken to luma in depth , they know more about me then I do lol and what I posted was their recommendation for me.

I live in a city that doesn’t allow mattress donations, period. So it is not an option at all for me so I am somewhat limited.

Hi Ari,

I’m glad that you’ve spoken directly with Luma to receive their advice. The latex will be a more supportive/buoyant feel than the memory foam mattresses you’ve not enjoyed, so hopefully this will be something that will work well for you.

As you’re in an area where mattress donations are not accepted (I’m thinking it may be NYC?), hopefully you checked with Luma regarding any potential return/exchange policies for your area. If you are in NYC, you can dispose of your mattress by placing it on the curb the day before trash pickup, but it must be encased in plastic. You can also sell/donate a used mattress on sites like craigslist or freecyle.org.

Good luck!

Yes NYC.
Luma will pick it up so that is a good thing
thanks Phoenix!

Hi Ari,

I’m glad that you’ve already confirmed this with Luma. That’s good news.
