Hello! I have been dragging my feet at buying a new mattress and am looking for opinions on here. My husband is 6’3" 180 pounds and primarily a side but also back sleeper. I am 5’2" and 118 pounds and the same, mostly side. I have hip issues and had frozen shoulder in both shoulders so my shoulder will get stiff. I think we need good support but also pressure relief. I have been looking at Latex Mattress Factory Luxerion Hybrid but also Neat and Wild Hybrid. Any suggestions or opinions on these two?
Both are very reasonably priced first of all. I dont think you could go wrong with either one.
Personally my favorite mattress on the whole market is the Nest and Wild. It has a cooling cover, 2" of very soft latex/memory foam hybrid foam on the top, 2" of medium/soft memory foam under that, then a base layer of texas pocket springs quadcoil. And a protective layer of foam underneath the springs. Brandon Jamis makes the foam for his beds at the factory, and had been in the foam business for a very long time beforehand.
The feel is soft on the top, and supportive at the same time.
I bought one for my parents and my dads back pain went away, and my mom loves it too. Shes very small as well. There is a short break in period where the bed will soften up a little bit.
The Luxerion is a high quality bed because it looks like it uses bolsa edge elite springs, it has 3" of talalay latex which is the higher quality version of latex than Dunlop. And the cover is high quality and natural. Also you get two free pillows.
Either one you pick will be a great option.
Thank you! One of my concerns regarding the Nest and Wild is how new they are. At only 5 years old it makes me nervous that perhaps enough time has not gone by to see any issues over time with their product.
The foams are pre-stressed to prevent sagging, and the texas pocket spring layer is preloaded which means they fit a taller spring into a 7" pocket for durability. They have a 15 year warranty as well.
I can’t really compare those two specific mattresses firsthand, but I will say your situation sounds really similar to what I was dealing with — especially the combination of side sleeping plus hip and shoulder issues. I went down a huge mattress research rabbit hole trying to find the perfect balance between support and pressure relief, and honestly it became exhausting trying to decide between “slightly softer,” “slightly firmer,” latex vs hybrid, topper combinations, etc.
What ended up helping me the most surprisingly wasn’t changing the mattress itself. I learned about incline sleeping — slightly elevating the mattress to tilt the entire foundation instead of sleeping completely flat. There’s a site called Incline Sleep that explains the concept pretty well. I eventually tried their foam wedge system underneath my existing mattress and it made a really noticeable difference in my hip and shoulder pain. It was the most affordable way for me to try this concept and I was beyond surprised at how immediate the relief was ~ it uses gravity to remove the pressure and I felt like I was floating.
What stood out to me in your post is that you probably do need support, but your joints also sound pressure-sensitive from side sleeping and prior shoulder issues. That was exactly my problem. I kept thinking I needed to find the magical “perfect” firmness level when really my body seemed to respond better to a different sleeping angle altogether.
I still think the Luxerion Hybrid looks interesting because latex tends to sleep cooler and hold up better long term than a lot of foams. But I’d personally be cautious about going too firm with your size and side-sleeping preferences, especially with shoulder history. Some of the reviews I read mentioned that latex hybrids can feel firmer than expected during the break-in period, particularly for lighter-weight side sleepers.
Not saying incline sleep is the answer for everyone, but since you’re already trying to solve pressure-point pain specifically, it might be worth reading about before getting too deep into mattress analysis paralysis. It was one of the few things that actually changed my hip and shoulder pain instead of just slightly changing where the pressure moved around. Good luck to you!
Thank you for that advice. We are way over due for a mattress so I know that is a huge contributing issue right now, I am sleeping in a dip. I have not cared for softer mattresses in the past, so I am leery of the memory foam one, the guys at the Latex Mattress Factory seem to think that I am not too lightweight for the Luxurion Hybrid so I think we may go that way. But I had never thought about what you brought up so I may also look into that.
Ill just say, im 215lbs and nest and wild doesnt actually translate as soft as the specs say. I barely sink into it. The usual memory foam bed is slow responding and you sink into it, which you definitely have to have a preference for. I however also do not enjoy that feeling
. Something about the top layer having latex in it and the layer underneath being made with a pneumatic process vs chemical like standard memory foam, makes both foams return to shape at a normal pace rather than being slow and sunk in like a tempurpedic bed. But yeah either bed will do. Latex mattress factory is definitely a good company and about $1000 for a latex hybrid with 2 pillows is a very good deal.
