I’m struggling to move forward with purchasing a mattress cover – in order to hold all of the layers together. Right now, I’ve got the following layers (from top to bottom):
- Comfort Layer: FloBeds 2" Convoluted Latex Topper (enclosed in its own Stretch Knit Cover)
- Luxury Layer: TPS QuadMini 3"
- Base Layer: TPS QuadCoil 8"
I want to purchase a mattress cover like the Premium DIY Stretch Cover from Texas Pocket Coils, but I’m struggling with figuring how to optimally layer the coils and latex – because it affects choosing the depth of the cover. And at over $300 for the cover, I’m stressed about making the wrong choice.
Basically these are my options:
- Option 1: 11”-12” mattress cover (for just the coils), allowing me place the 2” latex topper on top of the mattress.
- Option 2: 13”-14” mattress cover (to hold both the coils and latex together).
- Option 3: Find an inexpensive cover that allows me to test the feel of the mattress in different configurations – before committing to a final depth for the premium cover.
- Unfortunately, I have no idea which product would be a good solution for this option.
I’d sincerely appreciate the community’s insight on how I should best move forward.

It looks like the configuration is solid, so good work there.
As for the cover/encasement, usually I’d recommend going with option #2 in your list, but #3 has me curious as to what data points you’d find.
Your configuration looks to be 13” - the cover you’re looking at has stretch and is zippered. Is there any way you can purchase the 13” cover and still be able to easily move things around if you want/need?
If not, you could go with the cheapest option available, something like a regular waterproof mattress protector (although it’s obviously not going to hold things together quite the same way.

I bought Quadcoil 15.5 + Quadmini + 2” LMF soft talalay with a cotton cover; I put all of them in a 14” premium DIY stretch cover. I am happy with the outcome. Also don’t sleep on coils with just a mattress protector for 10 nights. Case them;, then put a mattress protector. In my case, I bought protect-a-bed mattress protector from Costco for $20.

@megatonoleo this is the exact configuration I am considering! I’m wondering if you are satisfied and why you didn’t select the convoluted topper from Flobeds (realizing it is more expensive, of course). I’ve been looking at various cases and was concerned the stretch knit may not feel as plush as I’d like. Does your set up give you any plush feels or mostly just comfortably supportive?

Price was the concern. I got a great deal on lmf talalay topper as well. You would be happy with convoluted topper from Flobeds. In my case, I added 1” 4lb gel memory foam topper under the talalay topper. Now I don’t need to change any further.
Since you want a plush feel, get a wool quilt mattress cover. Or add a memory foam layer on top of the convoluted topper, as that’s what plush top panels have.

I beleive option two..but my cover on my latex bed was loose after I sent for a new piece of latex so thought I bought a two inch and needed a 3in. My latex was getting old but the sides of my mattress got very bulged..and hung over the frame by inches.
.drove me nutts..like the whole bed stretched out..but to be fair it was almost 12 years old.
