First time poster but grateful reader here:) Is anyone aware of any mattress covers appropriate for a DIY hybrid latex build that have handles?
Thanks to everyone’s wonderful advice, I think I have the courage to start a DIY mattress after no luck trying out dozens of mattresses in the stores in my area. I am a relatively tall and thin side sleeper trying to avoid hip and shoulder discomfort. I liked the general feel of two different latex hybrid models the best but they were not quite right and also expensive. My current plan is 8" + mini TPS coils plus one or two latex layers. I will save the cover for the end but want to make sure I am aware of a good option before starting down this road.
I have seen posts here and elsewhere that quilted covers may restrict the conformity of latex. But a completely stretchy cover may not support the coils long term and/or could rip when moving the mattress. So I might encase the coils in a supportive traditional cover and keep the latex layer(s) as a topper, which would open up more cover options that only come in 12" or less. Handles would be ideal given the weight of the coils. Thanks!
P.S. I emailed one place that does custom covers to see if adding handles are an option and will update if they say yes.
Update: There’s a Canadian company that offers three covers with handles. Here is one that says it has a quilted “stretch knit” top, which might work for a latex hybrid since the fabric around the top layers is different than around the core layer: Stretch Knit Quilted To Wool Zip and Tape Edged Cover - Von Viva. Free shipping to the US, unclear if returnable but a lot of covers out there do not appear to be returnable anyway. I emailed to find out what depths they come in but their mattresses appear shorter (9-12") so it may not work for a complete build.
